Thanks for the encouragement. I can't wait to get this thing running and the list of things to get done is still long, but getting shorter. Too bad we all live so far away, but I plan on taking a few road trips after it's running and I install A/C. I know I'm driving to Louisiana next year when my buddy gets his Tesla Roadster delivered. Maybe we can all do Chevellebration one year.

Yeah.. A/C.... I just did a test of my A/C and it works, Did a leak down test and then put a can of r134a to watch for leaks and it seem to hold and blow cool air, had it down to about 50 degree !. I have to take it apart one more time to flush the Evap and Condensor and then a full charge for R12A (I had it coverted to R134a before I took it apart).

The Stock AC control seem to work ok and I was able to wire in my SPAL Controller to activate my Fan when the AC is turned on.

Bottom Line, you can use all of the OEM Chevelle with just the LS1 compressor.

That is good to hear because I plan on doing a/c in mine with the vintage air kit since my car is not an original a/c car. I don't think its in the budget for this summer however.

Not much. Working on getting the firewall welded in now. Hopefully that should be done next week and I can drop the motor in and get it running soon. Too many hobbies and not enough money.

Quick question from newbie- to get the engine in - you used the aftermarket mounts and a stock F body pan- correct?

I used the stock clam shell (crossmomber mounts, but moved them back towards the firewall) with the short and wide motor mounts. Then I built a set of BRP style adapter plates. Using an F-body pan w/ no mods.

A few more questions:

What year make and model is the console?
What year for the Impala fuel tank?
OEm fuel pump or aftermarket?

I am starting a spreadsheet to keep track of all the different parts.

Thanks again-
John

The console is a ~2000 F-body manual console. I think they are all the same.
The tank is from '95 Impala SS, but the Caprice tank might also work. Not totally sure.
I got a Racetronix kit w/ 255lph Walbro pump and hot wire kit.

An update while I'm here.
The firewall is mostly finished hopefully I can get it into paint this weekend and I am going to try and get the motor in next weekend and started if all goes well. I want to make it to the NPD GM show at Silver Springs in October, but we'll see what happens. I know how deadlines go.

Not sure on the casting number, but mine is a '98 box. There is quite a bit of info on that swap on chevelles.com forum.

Stealth.. How much longer till you get that thing back on the road..! I've been waiting since last Thanksgiving (your 1st target date LOL)..

I think I will have to upgrade to a quicker box one of these days, maybe a winter project now that the car is running. Keep us posted on your firewall.

The show I want to make is October 6. So we'll see where I'm at this time next week, but my goal is to get the motor started next weekend if the planets align. Then just throw the body panels on and get an alignment. It's gonna be a thrash and no body work will be complete, but if it can hit the streets I'll worry about looking pretty later.

As the signature says: " Who cares about the paint, you won't see it long anyway."

Well.. with all of those goodies you have in it, it will be a Primed blurr anyway as you hit the streets anyway... maybe you can get someone to do some quick pinstripping for that old rat rod look of black printer and pinstrips.. :d

good luck and keep the thread updated..
