Well, I haven't updated this in a while. I have been slacking as usual, been too busy between work and getting a bunch of stuff done for my wedding coming up. My fiance keeps asking me to do stuff for her and doesn't understand it's taking away from my car time. I bit the bullet and ordered one of the AFCO swap radiators so I don't have to cut up my core support. I think I am getting a phobia of the grinder and cut off wheel. I also picked up a Detroit Speed wiper kit to replace the 37 year old 2 speed wiper motor. I added a couple more gauges to the dash and mounted my shift light. I am now working on leds for turn signal, park brake, high beam and MIL. Hopefully it should be very close to starting soon, but I doubt it will be running til end of May/June.

wait till you have a kid then you"ll know what no car time is.I'm going for the afco myself , did you buy it yet? i found a dist, who sells them at the best price , I'm on my wifes comp. and i dont remember the name , let me know if you need it , glad to see some progress , im moving at a snails pace myself.JOHN

i just read quickly through your extremely detailed thread. on your clutch stop how did u measure or determine when its fully disengaged to put your stop in? my LS1/T56 came with all three pedels which i was hoping to use in a 68 A body depending on brake petal and linkage.

I actually had welded it on and then redid it once the clutch was assembled. Best way to do it is assemble the clutch master and pedals and then mark where the pedal is full depressed. I then moved it back some and made it adjustable to fine tune it.
I started with a F-body pedal set, but then decided to go with the stock style A-Body set which turned out to be much less work.
BTW Just got back from my wedding and honeymoon so the car should be top priority. Look for some updates soon.

Stealth.. Congrat's on your Wedding.. So.. we are going finally to see some fast progress on the project now!
I did the same, used the A-Body. Just connected it all up, measure the travel (a bit over 1"), used a vise grip to lock the mounting tab in place and then took it out and welded it in place.
I also welded a tab near the bottom of the pedal and use a bolt and some nuts to use as a travel stop (with a rubber bumper on the head) for the pedal

Stealth you better hurry up. You got 2 years on me I started at Christmas and I'm about to launch the rocket this weekend. Of course my wife is about to divorce me for the time spent away from her on this project. I want to thank all you chevelle guys that have helped me out. Without you guys I would not have made it to the launch pad.

I am glad to see posting still going on with this thread. Life seems to take over and projects get tossed to the side, yet it clears your head for when you come back. I have damn near memorized this thread, not to mention it is in my favorites. My 72' Chevelle will get a LS6 or LS2 swap in the next few years. I bought the car six years ago w/ a daily driver 350/350 combo, transformed it into a 427/M4 630HP combo, sold the motor a year later, and now want to go back, tie up all of the loose ends and get a clean daily driver out of the car. This thread is referenced so many times on Team Chevelle and is a great launching pad for the rest of us with the details in this thread. The last few steps seem to take the longest and this is always where the most set backs are found. Thanks of your Help and good luck!

Not much to post pictures of, but I have actually been out working on the car. Got the Detroit Speed wiper motor installed and working. Tore apart the core support, steering and upper control arms to paint. Making progress slowly. Hopefully I'll have something worth showing soon.

Got the steering and upper control arm cross shafts painted and installed again. I keep feeling like I have put this stuff together 15 times. I need to clean up the core support and get it painted then I can finally get the fenders on, put the radiator in, finish up a bunch of stuff and hopefully get closer to running. I should be able to get the driveshaft shortened this week. We'll see what happens over the next couple weeks. Maybe some pics soon.

Stealth, have you or any of the other LSx A-body guys considered modifying the aluminum F-body driveshaft from the donor car? I like the idea of saving weight if possible. I haven't compared driveshaft lengths yet to know if this would be a possibility or not.

I actually just dropped my driveshaft off to get shortened today. It was made by them (Advance Driveline here in Orlando) about 5 years ago and only needs to be shortened and balanced. It's a 3" steel piece with solid spicer joints. I can tell you with my setup it's ~54" from the seal on the trans to the rearend yoke. You might be able to ask around and find out what the F-Body shafts length is.

The aluminum F-body driveshaft is too short for an A-body. The required driveshaft length for a LSx / T-56 is about half ways between the stock A-body and F-body shafts.
