Default my 1st gen swap

i know these are pretty common now, but i wanted to post some pics kuz im pround of it. so far i paid someone to put quarters on it.............they messed it up. turns out there was another layer of sheetmetal they didnt remove. i've never done quarters but i wanted it done right so now i just finished tacking them in place. took me about 4 hours each to fit properly. i got an 01 ls1 that makes about 500 horse, with a 4l60e with a 3500 yank converter. i still need a few parts, but i just got my motor mounts and tanks inc in tank walbro 255 set up. i already put new floors inside and in the trunk(that was alot easier than the quarters.

chris, are you running a rack and pinion? I had to put a dent in my first header tube to clear my inner ball joint... after all that, getting them to clearance great with the steering box, the friggin first header tube hits the balljoint. did you have that issue?

today is a good day. i have an extra set of 373 gears on a posi carrier for an 8.5 ten bolt (i got it to put in my old 79 camaro). so ive been looking for a nova rear for those gears. well today i decided to take a look at what i got because i have been having trouble finding a nova rear. well at first glance i thought "oh schnap" thats an 8.5. so i wrote the #'s down and sure enough 74 nova. check it out baby.

i got motivated today .... so i modified my energy suspension mounts to fit the adapter plates, then painted them and went to get some more hardware.... but i was still motivated so i pulled off my big block frame mounts and put in my small block ones , and said f it and put my motor and trans in today. it was a little tricky kuz i ws alone and i put the driveshaft in the trans so it wouldnt puke when tilted. and here are some pics.

also im poor, so i learn as i go beacause i cant afford to pay for someone elses labor , so ive tigged steel before , so i figured ide try aluminum...........it wasnt that hard . i tried a scrap first and after 2 or 3 passes i felt good. but as you can see form the pic welding cast aluminum is a lot harder than the sheetmetal i used (thats why its a little sloppy) but please dont be too hard on me it was my first try.

nice! those welds dont look bad at all. be sure to leak check it using solvent (water wont always show leaks). You're doing the project just like me (and most of us) buying one part at a time. I bought a quarter panel, tail panel at a time until it got put together. You'll get there eventually. Dont give up, you're makign awesome progress.

thanks, i dont give up easy. i paid someone to do my quarters and it turned out there was another layer of sheetmetal they didnt remove , so i couldnt get my doors to fit right. needless to say i had to spend a hundred and six bucks for 2 new qaurters and learn to do quarters. so like i said, i dont give up too easy. and the welds im proud of where the two pieces of sheetmetal meet, its where the sheetmetal meets the cast part that looks like poo!
