It does not have to be moved for Corvette pulleys, only F-body ones. Not all LS2 engines use this pump. The GTO uses the LS1 style pump, as the accessory drives are of the F-body style and spacing.

We use these little U hoses on all of our shop engines. I think that would be better than capping the ports. I think the water needs to flow for the thermostat to react properly.
