I'm doing an LS6 into an '87 560SEC (W126 series) but I haven't heard of a 190e (W201) chassis being done. My engine compartment is barely wide enough for the LSx engine and headers, I can't help thinking that the narrower 190e body would be rather difficult to shoehorn the engine into. There have been some people that have put the M117 MB engine in there so those are the folks you need to find to see how that engine went in. The M117 is very, very close to the same width as an LSx engine, but it is 3/4" shorter and a little taller than the LSx.

LS1 fits very nice between w201 framerails.
A/C compressor and brackets fit great too.
trans tunnel requires some cutting, as does the bulkhead supports.
crossmember will need to be chopped out and a new one fabbed up, while running a gto front sump pan.
steering box will need to be ditched for a rack and pinion, to make room for exhaust.
lots of other mods required.

Great - the voice of experience instead of mine just guessing!! :-)
Gen3Benz, did you leave the AC compressor in it's normal position on the lower part of the engine, passenger side?
Philntx - please fill out your profile for location. I'm in Vegas and Gen3Benz (who I'd like to meet one day) is in Phoenix. Where are you?

Ill be yanking the engine again so I will get some good shots of the crossmember.
Rack and pinion mounting tabs are not welding on yet, coming as soon as I make a steering shaft that works.

I will take a pic of the a/c bolted up this weekend too.
As it sits right now, the trans is pointing 3 degrees down and the diff points 3 degrees up.

I remembered that I had my camera in my truck
Took some pics with the engine resting during my lunch break.
I will take more this weekend with compressor bolted on and engine out.
Notice the dummy wooden springs, I call them "Ei-blocks"
The last pic shows the removeable front section of the crossmember.
It will be bolted to the rear section after I plasma cut the bolt holes.

I don't have any welding skills so I'm trying to use the SEC crossmember without major modifications, which is making life difficult. I have the rack & pinion temporarily bolted in there. I've found a plastic (replica) LSx engine and an empty 700R4 housing to use for fit up. Once I get the engine/tranny to mount properly, then I get to try the medium length headers I have, then see what insanity it's going to take to get the steering shaft run in there. Seems always to be something that needs inventing to get that engine in there!!

Gen3--- great picks, keep em coming. What year is that car? Are you going to leave the exterior stock? If not may I suggest the Evo III body kit from Reiger.
mramay--- sounds like progress. any pics?

I do like the looks of the Rieger evo3 kit better though.
I will be running 19" bbs LM knockoffs with 10.5 wide in the rear.
mramay - I wanted to push the motor as far back as I could and the factory crossmember would not allow it. My crossmember makes a nice spot to sit the c5 motor mounts on and mount the rack and pinion to.
c6 LS2 exhaust manifolds fit perfectly also.

Im just about to start installing a 2004 gto engine in my W124,
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...light=w124+ls1
Here is my thread, ive got the car and the engine in the garage now. I've bought most of what i need, i still havent decided what fuel press regulator to use though. im hoping to avoid modifying to rack and pinion. This car came with the 500 mb v8 engine, so it should be possible? maybe make som headers instead. Im using my mercedes everyday now, so i havent started disasembling it yet
, ive got to kick some life in to my old diesel van first. Ill put a link to this thread in my to.

The photo of the garage shows the new 4-post lift, the engine back on the right and the tranny on the floor to it's right. Within a couple weeks, all the moving boxes will be gone and the garage is mine. I can pull the car stuff out from under the lift and start working on the car again. I have insulated the garage door and will be having an HVAC guy run ducts from the air handler to the garage shortly. That will heat and AC the room!! I've already put down the vinyl floor - 12" self-stick vinyl tiles. Gonna be nice.
I did try headers with the plastic engine and I have some problems. The medium length headers hit the engine compartment on the passenger side and on the driver's side, they go right over the top of the rack & pinion input shaft. The stock Z06 headers go straight down from the heads and the exhaust pipe mounting flange hits the R&P input shaft. Guess I'll be looking at the header manufacturer websites to find one that hugs the block more.
At least everything is in one place and I have (will have) room to work.

Hi, I am a new member. I have recently had my LS1 project 95% completed, but on the road. A 2002 Mercedes with LS1 and T-56 6speed. Long Tube Headers, AFR Heads and cam upgrade. This may be the first of such conversions.
