Guys this is an awesome thread, would have been nice before I started my project. Lots of good info.
Right now Im in the middle, well maybe more towards the end, But this is it.

I went with an LSX376 crate motor
Leaving the AC on, man that complicated things.
8285 GT47 Dual Ball Bearing Turbo
4L80E tranny
Custom Cam, not the 204/211 that came in the motor
Dual Valve springs
CTV-S Acces kit on the front
Holley Oil Pan, plenty of clearance
Custom made frame mounts with Camaro Motor mounts
Changed the Timing Chain tensioner which was an LS3 tensioner to the LS2 Tensioner
read on some threads people were having problems with the LS3 tensioner breaking
XFI Computer and wiring harness
XIM Ignition Module
EZ TCU for the tranny
85lb injectors
Victor Jr manifold for injectors
Edelbrock elbow
92mm Wilson Throttle Body
Now comes the fun, and the custom headers that my buddy and I are going to have to make
havent figured out if Im gonna use two wastegates or one, to be determined.

I think thats about it.. But we will deff be having some fun.

I got about half way thru this thread so Im gonna go back and see what I missed, like I said a great thread.
And everyone is right, there are a bunch of folks going to this swap.
Hey what can I say, Power is addictive..

Have an awesome Fourth of July guys..

Any pics? Maybe pics of your mounts?

Sound like a really nice project you got going. I would probably ditch that Edelbrock elbow though for one of these.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/new-produ...ake-elbow.html

EDIT- What gbody are you swapping this into?

The vent line can be ran anywhere pretty much. On my factory gas tank for a turbo regal, the vent line runs all the way to the engine bay. It used to go to a charcoal canister. That canister is long gone. That line now just has a cheap filter I attached to it that I bought at autozone. It was in the isle with all the ricer stuff lol.

How are you all hooking up the alternator? I know the back terminal goes to the battery, but what about the plug? Where does that go?

You will need the excite wire hooked up with a 470ohm resistor and then it will work. Without the resistor it will burn up alternators.

i have a complete harness and pcm from a yukon i am putting in my regal, i ran the engine with stand alone on a engine dyno and had no problems

what is the resistor for, what is it to control

The pcm controls the alternator field or helps regulate the output. If you supply battery to the field it will probably overcharge and smoke the alternator, thus the resistor. lemkerailroad, if your harness connects to the alternator and charges properly i wouldnt worry about it .

Silver T:
Do you have a one wire alternator? If you have the factory alternator from a 5.3 truck it should have a place to plug the connector in. I can get pics if needed.

ok i see what you are getting at.......sorry didnt understand earlier about the alternator issue

ok i have a problem and need help from a wiring expert, i have done this **** for 25+ years on the old school stuff but am a little confused right now

heres what i need help with

im hooking a 2001 yukon pdc to the wiring coming out of the firewall from the factory plug in a 1981 regal

this part is info on the yukon wiring
acording to lt1swap -- c1-b11 red wire feeds 12v b+ to ign switch hot all time
c1-a9 pink from ignition switch hot in run / start to power fuse block
c100 pin c pink to 12v run / start source this powers the pcm

this part is on the regal wiring
this is the firewall engine side plug
circuit 2t / 2h red wire (same wire changes description) which is supposed to be b+
circuit 2a / 2e red wire (same as above) which is supposed to be b+ which also goes to the high speed blower motor as well
circuit 3 tan almost which goes to the distributor
purple wire also for starter trigger

can someone help me connect these two vehicles together as i am at the end of my rope right now and am having a major BRAIN FART

I believe the distributor wire (tan almost) connects to the c100 and c1 - a9 in the yukon harness
I believe the other two red wires, circuit 2t and 2a would connect to the c1 - b11

this project is for a few of us at Sinclair Community College here in dayton ohio as we have had a great time building the engine in high performance class, web site in my sig for the build

but right now i need some fresh eyes to help us out with this project, i am out in the shop right now working on it and have my cell with me also, if you can help to get this wired up for us please give me a call. I am sure i am just overthinking this project but i really am at a loss right now

thanks in advance

dave

if someone has made a diagram that would be great also if you could post it up as i have my laptop here also

thanks again

Default Please help!

First, I'll give you a rundown of what I'm working with:
'86 Buick Regal Limited - originally w/ Olds 307/TH350
Swapping in a L31(5.7L Vortec)/4L60E out of a '97 GMC Sierra that I wrecked in '09.

I know this is not an LS1, but please see if you can assist me.

Ok, I have the 307/TH350 out and the L31/4L60E in, but it's only just sitting in.

I first bought some frame pads from Advance Auto Parts that were meant for the '97 GMC. After I got the engine/trans lowered over where I had the frame pads just sitting (didn't tighten 'em down, just put a bolt through 2 holes to hold it), I realized it wouldn't fit. The mounts on the L31 engine were a little over an inch off from where I had the frame pads sitting.

I've since taken those mounts back and now I'm looking for right mounts that will work for my application.

FYI, I still have the original clam shell mounts that came off the crossmember.

You need the mount off of a chevy gen 1 v8. Then you need the framemounts for a chevy v8. Go to your local pick a part and find a g body with a v8 and then get the block mounts and the frame pads. If I remember correctly the olds motor had different mounts. There are multiple holes on frame for the different mounts. The motor will set right in in standard location. As far as trans 4l60e may be same as 700 trans so you would need to move crossmember.Do not use truck mounts.

The pic of the driver side clamshell is in the wrong boltholes for a v-8. i cant see the passenger one but i assume they are mounted identical.
It will only use 3 bolts and the bottom forward hole will hang out past the crossmember. the hardware in the pics are the correct ones. If you switch to gen 1 pads and such you are gonna be modifying and welding. I will try to get you some pics.

Yeah, you're right, they are mounted identical.
And yeah, I have the top bolts in the #2 & #4 holes(from the front of car), I think you're telling me that I need to have them in #1 & #3, at the top, and the bottom front hole is gonna hang off the crossmember. OK, Gotcha.

Glad you told me that I had the right hardware, I paid $50 for those to frame pads from Advance Auto. Then I find out that Summit has them for $9.99 each. I already took them back to Advance because I thought they were the wrong ones, so I'll be buying from Summit now.

I DO NOT want to be welding!

Please do post pics if you can.

Thanks in advance!

Some people just mount it on the wheel wheel under the hood like factory. Personally don't like the look. Matter of fact I don't even want to see the PCM. Yet still want it easily accessible. I'm going to either relocate the horns that are mounted inside the driver side fender to the passenger side and place pcm there where the horns used to be then make a cover to hide it, or I'm going to mount it inside the car behind the dash somewhere. Might be building a center console from scratch so directly under the dash where the radio is could be an option hidden inside the console.

Mine is going on the driverside fender.. It will be standing up in front of the horns behind the core support.
