Default Year range of GenIII equiped trucks?

If I'm looking for a donor truck with the 5.3L or 6.0L engine, what year range should I be looking for? It seems that the earliest available is '99 although I'm not certain on that. Are there any years to avoid, similar to the '98 LS1 F-body?
Also, am I correct in assuming this should also coincide with the truck derivatives such as the Escallades, Suburbans, and Avalanches?

Thanks in advance!

Where is that at? I could have swore LS1tech had a trucks section at one time, but I'm not finding it. That's why the post ended up here.

EDIT: Nevermind... I guess I just need to look "up" a little more frequently.
Thanks Andy

For ease of conversion look for a 2001-2002 truck motor, they have cable throttle body and I believe the 5 wire maf.

That's the exact info I was looking for. If I were to retrofit a cable throttle body would there be much difference in running the 5 wire MAF? What would the effective difference be?

I don't exactly know. You want to convert a 3 wire setup to a 5 wire? Is that what you are asking? If so, I'm speculating here, run/convert the wires and reprogram with a truck program setup for 5 wire.

I'm just looking to do a wholesale drop in into a '68 Camaro. I figured if I have the wiring harness and PCM is there something about the later models (minus the non-cable TB) that are inherently harder to swap?

The early 6.0Ls had iron heads pre 2000. So if you buy sight unseen ask! And the early 5.3ls had smaller injectors 19#hr till 00 or 01 then they got the 24# 6.0L injectors.

The 2003 and up motors don't have EGRs so thats good, but they have Drive by wire which isn't that hard to swap and will give you a cruise control you just need the switch if you get everything.

Thanks for the info. At this point I'm looking for just about any LS derived donor vehicle but the more I look into it, the more I'm thinking about going with an '03+ 6.0L

My 6.0 is an 03. If you are eliminating ETC, you can convert the harness to a 03 Express van configuration by adding TPS and IAC wires, then install the van program.

Here is a good link for some history of the Gen III/IV engines and what they came in.

I don`t know how many pounds per hour they are, but the 2001 5.3L and 2001 6.0L motors both have the same injectors, so it must have been the 99 and 00 5.3l`s that had smaller injectors.
