You're rockin the same tires I am. They seem to hook quite well. However I still have no problem spinning them, in 1st, or 2nd, or 3rd. lol. A lot of guys that have been riding shotgun in the car commented on how well they hook once a guy spins them once, then trys a second time.

You should enjoy the tires. For a extreme performance classed tire. The have the deepest tread depth.

I'm running 275/40/17 in the front and 295/40/18 in the rear

I would have gotten 275s, but my wheels are a little narrow. Sending PM.

Did the hose clamps help or worsen the "vibes"?

You know I have been plagued with a vibration ever since I had owned the car.

The only time I didn't have a vibration is when I was running a TH350, stock 10 bolt and a 400 sb.

From there on, every combo I had, vibrated.

400sb TH350 12bolt 4.10s vibration
400sb TH350 12bolt 3.73s vibration
454 TH350 12bolt 3.73s really bad vibration
454 TKO new drive shaft 12bolt 3.73 lessen but still a vibration

Hopefully a new LS2, new TKO500, new 12 bolt with 3.08s will ease my pain as well.

Sucks *** if it doesn't

Ben,

I feel your pain. My GTO has vibrated for a while as well. I really think it is in the ear end. either I have an issue with the pinion gear itself or the pinion yoke.

After looking things over and mocking up my old shaker base it as decided that a whole new base would need to be made. So Ken rolled a new base and bottom.

The only part of my old base that was reused was the upper lip that attached to the shaker top.

Ken also fabricated another piece that was welded to the inside of the base and held the air filter element. I picked this filter element because it is as large as the base will allow. The filter is also rather thick which gives it more area for better flow. It also happened to be in stock at the local AutoZone, which means I can get a replacement just about anywhere.

Another one of Jeff's fabricators, Kyle, helped out with the TIG welding of the 4" pipe that connected the base and the throttle body.

Today everything was starting to take shape. The MAF was mounted inside the pipe towards the the top, just after the rubber coupler.

Tomorrow morning I am heading out to Colorado. I will be stopping in Lincoln, NE to visit my friend Brian. Brian did the body and paint on my GTO. We will smooth out all the welds on the base and paint everything a semi-gloss black. Thanks again to the crew at Schwartz Extreme Performance for a job well done!

Andrew

Wouldn't the air filter need to go the other way?

From a filtering stand point, it does not matter. This was brought up on another forum and the concern is that the filter might collapse. The steel mesh goes on the bottom and keeps the element from collapsing. I figure I can avoid the problem by changing the element on a yearly basis. It is only about $20.

Andrew.

I was looking through the entire thread. I see that you purchased a Keisler Hydraulic clutch. I have the same one for my TKO500. Are you not able to run a power brake booster as well as the hydraulic clutch valve?

Thanks

Ben,

I am pretty sure that you can run a booster with the Keisler kit. I always had manual brakes on this car.

Thanks Doc!

I got the wheel centers back today and they look pretty amazing.

I should have the polished rims tomorrow and then I can start on assembling the wheels.

During a recent trip to Chicago I stopped by The Parts Place and picked up a new pinion yoke. After installing it, I measured the run out and it was .004", quite a bit less than the run out on the other yoke which was about .040". I ran it up to speed on the jackstands and it was very smooth in 5th gear (1:1) all the way up to 4500 RPM. It still vibrated a little in 6th, but I think most of that is due to the fact that there is no load on the driveline. I am going to leave it for now and see how it feels going down the road.

The brakes should be here next week, then I can be back on the road.

Industrial hard anodizing. $200 for all 4. They charge "per rack." It took two racks to hold the wheels.
