Default 94' volvo planning

He wants to do a swap into his 94 volvo 790, I suggested a 5.3l for a budget build, even a 4.8l, any suggestions???? We are seriously planning on doing a swap during the summer, and its going to be a v-8 sleeper, just in the planning phase as to what

It's not too hard to do. The 740 is a pretty well built car. Quite a few similarities to the Camaro as far as engine setup/trans. setup. Camaro oil pan and accessories work well. LS engine much lighter and a tad smaller then older small block. You're on your own with swap parts though. Not much available. I made all the exhaust/driveshaft/mounts.
Massive amount of time but well worth it to pull up to a stop, do a burnout and see people look everywhere but at you trying to see the Camaro or Vette that just lit the tires up! Little do they know....and you can just sit there with a big *** grin on your face.
First picture is 740/ZZ4/T56. Dynoed 420hp. Ran 13.27@113 wouldn't hook up but did massive burnouts!
second is 940 with 5.3 LS2/4L60...Only driven it 15 miles. Just finishing. Nice burner though! Automatic sucks.
The LS engine is SOOOO efficient. It will idle in the shop for half an hour before the fan comes on even with a stock rad. The small block would get hot in 10 minutes.

If it's a '94 isn't it a 940? Doesn't really matter, the engine bay is the same. Here are the details from a '94 940 owned by eurautodave (originally posted here):
  • Oil Pan: Cadillac CTS-V pan, pickup, dipstick and tube
  • Motor Mounts: Jags That Run (JTR, made for SBC)
  • Motor Mount adapters: Universal small block Chevy to LS1 plates
  • Transmission crossmember: Jags That Run (JTR)
  • Exhaust manifolds: 98 to 99 5th generation Corvette (C5) exhaust manifolds
  • Exhaust: Custom 3" with Magnaflow mufflers in the stock location
  • Fuel system: Stock volvo fuel pump with c5 fuel filter (for pressure regulation) then another fuel filter (to plug into 'vette filter)
  • Drive shaft: GM yoke added to front section of stock two piece Volvo shaft
  • Other important details: engine crossmember clearanced for oil pan, clearance transmission tunnel for transmission (T56 requires less clearance according to JTR)
1994 940 Sedan weight before swap (Cloth interior, AC, 16" Borbet wheels): 3260 lbs.
1994 940 Sedan weight with LS1/4L60E (3" exhaust): 3380 lbs.
I daily drive a LT1/T56 Volvo 740 wagon. See the link below for details.
