Default The odometer reading made me look twice

Anyone want a new '02 convertible?? The odometer photo looks so strange.

NO SALE!! Top bid was $22,000.
That's a tough one if you are the seller. I think the car could bring $25,000 eventually to that one certain buyer. Maybe even a little more.
From a buyer's point of view he has to lay out the $22k plus pay the auction percentage which is 8% at Mecum, then transport the car home if he doesn't want to drive it. From the seller's perspective the $22k might be acceptable but then he has to pay the auction fees too, which brings the price down too low, but now has to transport the car back to his home or car lot. Not always easy decisions.

I am amazed how many of low mileage cars are around. I purchased a 9,000 mile 2002 Z28 Convertible in May and found literally dozens of cars at less than 1,000 miles and quite a few in the 25 to 750 mile range. Asking price was generally $33,000+.

They might be asking those prices but they are not getting those prices...

That's for sure. Once in awhile a price will knock your socks off, but it is unusual.
It isn't just F-bodies either. I see G-bodies (similar to mine) with asking prices way above actual sales prices. There are two on ebay right now for $27,000 which is not even remotely close to what they actually sell for. I have documented these sales for the past 6 years and we are talking mid teens in 'real world' pricing. I wish they were higher but I'm not in denial. Sellers just take wild chances. You never know.

Check the mileage on http://www.ebay.com/itm/171407421512?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT. The seller had a bid of $25k but it did not meet reserve! This is like the fourth time it has been listed. I recently bought my 02 WS6 Red convertible M6 with less than 7k miles on it for $23k. In my case it was exactly the car I was looking for and I was willing to pay a premium for it.

GR8RYD, I think you did fine with that price. That's what they go for 9 times out of 10. The $25k bid you talked about for this ebay example is what I would pay as well. If his reserve is too far over that $25,000, it will be a tough sale. You are getting into CETA price territory for a similar ultra low miles ride. The 600+ miles is indeed unreal though. Very cool!!

I contacted the Ebay seller on that 680 mile WS6 vert a week or two ago asking why they were re-listing week after week w/o results. The dealer is far better known for their sale of classic cars...at strong prices. They indicated that it was a customer's car and that the reserve was north of $30K (ie not much they could do). Could be worth $30K+ to someone, someday. But, it's going to take a while. For $30K+ you can find much more desirable collector cars with ultra low miles (DEI, 1999 and 2002 WS6 anniv cars, 1LE Firehawk, Firehawk verts, etc.). If you're going to spend >$30K then get a high-demand collector car for yourself....with those 1K miles. The only drawback is that you'll probably feel bad as you start putting miles on them.

$25K-$26K to me is probably a fair price to get for that 680 mile WS6 vert. In a way, the miles are almost too low for anything but a museum....or for someone who has money to burn and wants a nearly new WS6 vert to put on 5,000-10,000 miles over the next 5 years.

$22K for that 680 mile 2002 SS anniv vert at Mecum is fair money. There are a lot of these cars out there with <15K miles in the $17K to $24K range. They were saved in quantity and should provide an ample supply to enthusiasts for another 10 years. The first one I looked at was in 2011 for a 12K mile A4 vert at $19,995 (in the dead of winter). That was cheap at that time. But if a 680 mile car can be had for $22K today, it doesn't look like they've been holding up as well as the WS6's.

True. That's why it's called asking.
