Default Is anyone else tired of weight-lifting the trunk lid?

I thought there was a problem with my '96 - the trunk was heavy as hell even after I replaced the gas struts. Geez, the 2000 is the same friggin thing. There is absolutely no assist at all lifting the trunk. What were the designers thinking?

Of course it's not the biggest problem in the world - but I find it odd. My wife is 5 feet tall and 100lbs - I doubt she could open the thing without a fight. (Guess that is where I should keep my "secret" stuff )

Has anyone done anything to improve this?

wish i could help... but i put a 1 peice spoiler on mine, and it is only worse... only good advice it to always lift up the deck lid from the center, or eventually the upper corners could crack from stress... I gotta find time to fix a previous owners lack of concern

Wish there was a fix. When my hands are full, I tend to use my forearm against the center of the lid and push up.It works but is indeed annoying.

The latch on mine has gone bad. So now there is no way to keep the trunk locked. So with it being heavy it keeps people thinking that it is still locked.

Mine was fine on my Z until I replaced the spoiler with an OEM SS spoiler.. The SS Spoiler is at least 2x heavier.. and now the trunk release wont even pop the trunk open if Im not tugging on it at the same time the release is hit. Very sad indeed.

When he says pop up, I really dont think he means up like lifts up, I think he means up like its unlocked, lifting it up is your problem, mine doesnt lift up, it just unlocks. Everyone agree?

Agree. That sucker doesn't budge until you start lifting. Even then there is no assist from the struts.

Right you are. I adjusted the bumpers on each side of the trunk and now it will unlock 90% of the time. Any higher on the bumpers and the spoiler sticks too far up and doesnt match the body lines.

I don't remember having any problem opening my trunk. To be sure,I went out to the garage and checked. I can open mine with two fingers.

Sounds like you guys should either lubricate the hinges or replace the struts.

Right now I'm stuck using the stupid key. I have to unlock it and then lift. Then take the key out to get the lock to apply. I can use the keyless entry and it makes the noise and everything, get to the trunk and its not unlocked yet.

I think you guys either need to lube the struts or eat more Wheaties!! I can list mine (normally at the brake light area) with my pinky!!!
