Damn Dean that's bad ***. I've been contemplating the decal for a while but hear of problems with application. What kind of paint did you use and do you think it'll hold up over time?

That for sure looks a lot better than my cheesy sticker, a company does make ones exaclty like that in sticker form to match the color of the car

Thanks everyone! John and Z06_JIM, that seems to be a common question. I have been building models and painting since I was very little, and I am also an artist. So I decided I would paint mine knowing that I have the skills to do so. I used water based acrylic enamels for the color and a water based polyurathane satin clear to seal it. The clear is flexible and won't crack or chip off. I have slammed my fist into it honking at some idiot and then realized after the fact that it held up nicely. I didn't mean to test it...LOL! But I have had mine on for about 6 months now with no problems. It has been in the heat and cold. I posted a pic to see what people thought since I recently did my uncles car and he said I could probably make some extra money doing it for other people.

Thanks, I am going to paint one for a local guy that has a yellow Z06 and I am doing the border in yellow with shading, instead of silver. Should look cool.

No problem, good luck and remember to clean your wheel with alcohol if it has any type of conditioner on it like armoral, etc. Otherwise the paint won't want to stick.

That would be fine, I am looking into that now. I believe it is two bolts that hold the cover on. I am not sure if the airbag is attached to it in any way? But you could ship the cover and I can paint it the same day I get it and send it back. Only thing is that if the car is a daily driver you may not be able to use the horn? I need to ask a mechanic that has removed the wheel.

Let us know if the wheel cover can be taken off solo...

I might be interested in this, what were you thinking about charging if so?

I was thinking $75 since it takes me 3 hours, and I think that is fair for a custom emblem with highlights. I talked to one person so far who said the airbag and cover come as one assy. So unless you can seperate the airbag from the cover, you would have to ship the assy and just drive with a wheel. I don't know how practical that would be? If your car is not a daily driver, then it wouldn't matter. Otherwise you would be taking a risk of driving without an airbag.

Update, If you are in Houston you can bring your car over and I can paint the emblem on the car. If you are not in Houston, you can ship your air bag assy by ground and I can paint it and ship it back to you. If your car is a daily driver and you are not local, you would have to drive without an airbag for a couple of days or more. Sorry, those are the only options. I am willing to work with anyone interested on color options, etc. I will paint them as they arrive the same day. I have one being shipped to me now, and one locally to paint. If interested, email me at db04z06@yahoo.com.

Thanks,
Dean

Hey Dean-O, you coming to the May 7 run (http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1023111)? I just ordered a sticker but would like to see the painted version. Definitely would like to see the MY pic when you're done.

That sounds like fun, I will check with the wife and see when her company crawfish boil is. If I'm not mistaken it is the first part of May. She works at it every year, so I am commited to that. Usually 1500 lbs of crawfish and 14 kegs, so I never miss it...LOL! Otherwise I would love to go.
