Default Rotten egg after installing cats and FLP headers

I had FLP headers installed a couple of weeks ago. I now it is normal for some initial smell as the bake a little. But, after switching to the high flow cats over a week ago the car has a nasty rotten egg smell which is obviously coming from the cats when ever I am idling or barely moving. No one has really been helpful in helping me figure this problem. The smell is not normal and it is nasty. I think the cats are bad since the smell is occuring more frequently but FLP doesn't think that is the case. What else could be causing this smell?

When I've installed the cats on my FLP's I've gotten the same smell.

A rotten egg smell is normal for any cat, but I still think it smells better than the raw fuel flower that i have with no cats.

Will the rotten egg smell go away with time. Factory cats don't smell like this and I would think that a quality aftermarket cat would not either. I had the straight pipes on first but the gassy open exhaust smell was just way to much in the car. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

the rotten egg smell is sulfur. what you need to do is go for a long ride on the freeway and get your cats hot enough to burn it off. short hops to the corner store tend to let it build up on your converters. while your up there, you could blow some of the carbon out of your combustion chambers, too, if you catch my drift.

I run my FLP's without cats continously and don't have no gas, sulfur, or exhaust smell. Less cats equals more power.

without cats <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Camaro]" title="" src="graemlins/camaro.gif" /> no smell faster ET

with cats smell <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[barf]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_barf.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[guns]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_guns.gif" /> smell run down the windows!!!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

With ORP's installed, mine no longer stink. It took about a week or so.

What exhaust are you running because i want to put the off road pipes on it. but i have the B&B PRT's and i fear it will be too loud. But w/o cats does it deepen the sound any?

I've got the B&B Tri-Flow Sport system. PRTs weren't out it when I got my car unfortunately. The sound really isn't that bad most of the time with the ORPs I actually expected it to be louder. But, my B&B has really bad resonance at the lower rpm range and the sound was really unbearable since my car is a daily driver and it would vibrate the doors and everything else in the car. It had a hollow sound to it but definitely sounded mean. The cats still made the car louder and deeper sounding. They seem to have gotten louder with time. The rotten egg smell is still there, though not as often, and I've had the system on for over a month. It only appears under certain conditions. It is just something I am going to have to live with based on what I've heard from others and may it still may go away eventually. I had the car redynoed with the cats and did the LS1 edit at the same time trying to lean the car out to get rid of this smell. The car with the cats (with LS1 edit) had almost an identical graph to the ORPs on the dyno. The horsepower was identical all the way to the top and the torque actually increased a little bit in the midrange over the ORPs and was the same at the top end.

I have the off road pipes installed with the B&B PRT's and it's really nice. I get very very little resonance but it sounds wicked <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
