Thumbs up First time out with MT drag radials...

I haven't posted here in a while.. or even been drag racing since 2002. But a few weeks ago I got the bug again and bought a cam, LS6 intake and some of those new MT drag radials.

Anyway, It was nice and cool last night so I decided to head on down to the track for some tnt. The barometric pressure was low and the humidity was kinda high but I figure the temps made up for it.

On the first run I took it easy off the line just to see how well the track was gonna hook.

First pass:
60': 1.66
1/8: 7.56 @ 90.83
1/4: 11.88 @ 114.50

Seems like the track is prepped pretty good so I launched a little harder this time:

Second pass:
60': 1.59
1/8: 7.46 @ 90.93
1/4: 11.77 @ 114.53

Daayum! These M/T drag radials hook just like my old ET streets!

Third pass:
60': 1.56 M/T Drag Radials
1/8: 7.43 @ 91.00
1/4: 11.73 @ 115.23

Timeslip

This was the best run of the night. I ran another 11.77 and then on the last run I coasted to a 14.something after spinning bad off the line.. The track was getting slick so I headed for home.

All in all a pretty good night. Nothing broke, but I did get a SES light on the way home. Gotta check that out and see whats causing it.

I know this thing will go 11.50s @ 116+ once I get the shift points adjusted. Right now its shifting at around 6200 - 6300 RPMs but according to the dyno I'm making good power all the way out to 6700 rpms so theres still another tenth or two there.

My previous best ET with boltons (11.99 @ 111.7) was with the car stripped down to 3350 lbs w/ my 250 lb *** in there. Now its back at full weight @ around 3650 lbs and is raced exactly like its driven on the street.. so I think last night's ETs are right about where they should be.

BTW, I saw a new GTO running 12.50s @ 112. Dunno what mods he had done but damn those things sound great!

glad to hear about the good hooking! A guy who races our track with a 5-speed stang got a set of 275/60/15's and is doing 1.6 60 foots and dead hooking at 4500-5000 clutch drops!

i just got back from trying these out and they do hook like crazy. they hook so nice that i basically broke my clutch. before i used to dump the clutch at 4k with bf drag radials and my best with those was 1.8. now with these i am at 1.94, but it was for two reasons. one of them being that they need to be launched hard. perhaps in the 4500rpm range. i was launching at 3k and dead hooking but bogging.

For me, one of the biggest advantages of using the MT drag radials over the ET streets is that they feel much more stable on the big end. When I had the bias ply ET streets out back with the skinny radials up front it felt really squerly (like riding on flats).. Now it feels very stable.

Yep. Thats next on the list.. Once I get you guys to adjust the shift points and get a good set of heads I think it'll go low 11s. What heads do you recommend? I want atleast 410 hp at the wheels through my unlocked converter & 12 bolt.

Evil,You need the PRC stage 2 5.3L heads. They will be a perfect match for your Racetech Speed Custom 230 Cam.It will hit the power number you are looking for, then you can hold on for some 10 sec time slips.I will come over toward Cave Springs this weekend to get some Lotto tickets.I can meet you to adjust your ship points.

Can't wait to get mine now! I am waiting on the other pair of 15" Convo Pros that are on the way. I wanted to do it right and get the 15" tires and not dick around with using the pair of stock 16" rims I have sitting around. The 15" naturally have a bigger sidewall and actually come wider. WOO-HOO!
