C6Z06 Bone-Stock on Stock Tires--11.34 at 127.13
Spur of the moment this afternoon, decided to try to make some passes at Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, Maryland. Their version of Friday Night Non-Street Racing. So lot of cars, mainly young drivers. Crowd was about 150 cars racing and 500 more spectators.
Weather was around 50 degrees and it had been cloudy all day and threatening showers, that never materialized. I measured the DA on my first run at a positive 100 feet.
Track official warned me during Tech Inspection that the 11.50 rule would be enforced; guess the C6Z06 rep is getting around. I walked both lanes to the 660' traps and found the base rubber was decent but devoid of any VHT-stickiness. So I expected modest traction and adjusted accordingly.
I ran the car bone-stock on stock tires. Zero mods. Front tires were at 30 psi and the rears I set to 27 psi. Cooled the car for 45 minutes after the two-hour trip thru Friday traffic. Hit the staging lights at about 185 degrees (H2O).
Here are the slip times on the best of two passes:
60'........1.853 (launch rpm 3000 with a fast release and progressive throttle squeeze)
330'......4.964
660'......7.461 @ 100.52
1000'.....9.569
1320'...11.345 @ 127.13
I had a significant amount of wheel spin on the 1-2 shift but much less on the 2-3 and 3-4. And managed to get the shift points very close to 7000, which was my target. Did some lift on the shifts but they were very fast. Been practicing that every day.
Believe with some better traction on the 1-2 shift there is room for improvement, same for the 60'. But tonight it felt pretty good and my shifts were better than on the previous 12 passes in the car.
Tried a second pass before heading home for dinner. 11.50 @ 127.14. Unfortunately, got too aggressive with the throttle and spun the launch to a 2.03 60'. Rest of the run was fine.
No warning. No boot. Cecil is still open for me.
All in all, a good evening of non-street racing.

Damn Ranger i've been waiting to hear this in awhile & here you're man impressed everyone with STOCK Z ON STOCK TIRES
That must be documented with vid...way to go buddy & good luck in your next flight on the Z

my 11.34 is the fastest for stock tires and my 11.20 is fastest for DRs.
Suspect by Fall 2006, the stock tire record will be in the low 11.2s and the DR record will be in the 10.8s. Don't know who the holder will be. Suspect more than a few owners running DRs will break rear ends. And, of course, most owners who pursue fast times won't keep their cars stock. So the field of bone-stock "class" racers isn't large.
It will take 30-50 passes to get the rhythm of the LS7 embedded. Perhaps the biggest challenge is making more than a couple passes in without being told to park it for lack of the sub-11.50 rollcage. So I suspect track rentals will become the venue of choice for running fast times.

Awesome times, a Friend of mine tells me your progress with all your Z06's all the time of what someone is able to do with awesome driving.

Thats sick fast. I want one of these cars SOOO bad. Unfortunatley I dont wanna pay $1000 a month to get one plus a crazy insurance premium. But to those who do own them enjoy them. I truly beleive its the best American Sports car/Muscle car ever built.

Ranger, I saw someone post that they picked up big power on they dyno with no air filter, so I'm wondering what you would run with no filter at all.

I think your water temp has some what of a factor on running so well in all seriousness. You kept it nice and cool. When I ran pop's 06 the temps were in the 220 range. From my understanding these cars pull quite a bit of timing when hot. I wouldn't be suprised if they richen up as well. Way to go man!!! Just showed pops this thread and he's decided on comming up there and making a couple of passes as well in his 06. Our local track (Delmar) doesn't hook too good on street tires.

I'm running bone stock, so the only way to cool the car is by shutting it down and waiting. No clever manual way to trick the fan to come on except tuning or an aftermarket part.
Good choices for a better track are Cecil County, Capitol Raceway, and Maryland International Raceway.

But I plan to return to Capitol for our Corvette club's semi-annual drag day on April 23, gates open at 11:00.
