the weight reduction is good in a way, but its a lot more rewarding taking what you have and perfecting it to make it faster. Its possible to lighten the car up in the wrong areas and slow it down.

impossible a lighter car with traction being present will always be faster.

come to the track with 2 pockets full of hundreds and Ill be glad to show you what I mean.

of coarse 2 cars that have different weights but have proper weight balance for each car will run different.

What I'm saying is If you take to much weight out of one area your going to have to put weight right back in to get the car to work. Take two identical cars and if yours is setup wrong, I could run laps around yours with my car heavier and setup correctly. catch my drift?

You've got a good big of weight in the nose alone to get rid of.

Small SMALL radiator, like a sirocco one. Cut the upper and lower radiator mounts out completely, along with all the nose plastic and overflow. That alone will be about 50 lbs out of the nose by the time you're done... and believe me it will be faster with that off the front of the car.

The cowl ya can cut off too, about 10 lbs there. Just cut it all out and rebox it in under the windshield.. the room to work on the car that makes is really nice.

Stock wiring, I'd clip that all out and race wire the car. That is another 40 lbs of wire gone, move the PCM behind the dash too, which will clean the engine bay up a TON, again alot less wire/clutter.

As you nhad mentioned the front and rear speedglass, a pin on vfn hatch with speedglass is about 75 lbs lighter then a stock ss hatch with regular glass for referance, if the pin on isn't too much of a pita to deal with, it's a great weight saver.

Wolfe door panels, ditch the center console if it's not gone already, ditch the stock dash, cut all the metal out behind that, and when the 10 pt goes in use the corss bar to put tabe on to attach the vfn fiberglass one.

All that is probabbly 250 lbs, 3/4 of which came off the front 1/2 of the car.

Oh yea, theres a ton of stuff I could cut off, but I realy dont want to hack this car all up. Now if it was a hardtop v6 car, it would be completely different.

very impressive. Would make one hell of a 11.0 index car how it sits. Is that a transbrake on a 4l60e ?

Hey Robbie,

If you haven't looked into it already, your car would fit nicely in Ram Racing's N/A shootout index class, and the series is hitting up VMP again this season...

thanks! might have to hit up a few of those this year. I see they have a few index classes. Is it a traditional 11.00 just runs 11.00 and theres a winner or are you ever running a car from a different index?

mixed index class, meaning all run together. Depending on qualifying order you can be up against anything from a 9.5 index car or a 13.0 car, so is you are a faster car you get to run them down or get chased down by a faster car then you. I am hoping to get the car into the 11.50 index myself, but we'll see I hated trying to slow it down 4 tenths last season to run the 12.0 index. There are no real pairings during qualifying and a lot of the guys try to line up next to a car within the same index just to run a little heads up in qualifying...

well we played with the tune a touch and suspension a little more and found some more gains. I took the car to the new charlotte zmax track this weekend to race in the PTRA 7.00 index class.

Like said before the car went 11.039 @ 120 before in great air.

After the changes it went 11.030 @ 124 with 2000 feet more altitude, 20% more humidity, and 20 degrees warmer air! Thats all its got though.

I was the only one footbraking in the class though and all I could do on the pro tree was a .050 so the 4l60e is coming out and im selling the practicly brand new converter. time for possibly a th400 and 2step with a transbrake.

So your saying you picked up about 40 hp with just some tweaks? Did the 60' get any better with the suspension changes?
