Default Remote mount electric water pump questions.

OK. So i bought the meizere drag race pump. With it bolted up, we realized that the belt will not clear it. the problem is my turbo kit uses truck manifolds, so i cannot have the alternator at the bottom, on either side.

I have a bracket and had the alternator on the pass head, but the belt will rub on the water pump that i had. So i am thinking of going remote mount. now the problem i see is the number of hoses. The adapter plates for the lsx give me 4 -12 total. My radiator is set up with 2 -16's on it.

Right now my best solution is to bring 2 -12 from block to a Y. I would like the Y to be 3 1"npt so i could go two -12 in, and 1 -16 out. Do -16 from Y to pump, and -16 from pump to rad. Then come out of rad with -16, and go to a Y, and 2-12 out of Y back to block.

I know i could go back to a mechanical pump. I know i could buy a 1100-1400 dollar radiator setup and make it work, and i know i could change my turbo kit so i can put the alternator back down low. I am trying to make it work with what i got.

This is a picture of what i had, and didn't work.

I guess my last option would be the meizere electric water pump with the pulley still for the belt. I am really trying to either find an electric water pump with better fittings, or a good way to adapt 2 -12 to 1 -16

Rad mounted pump may be the best solution.

remote pump, and a make 2 or 1 dual alum tube "Y" that bolts to he block, with one fitting for feed/return. You can make the offset to clear what you need.

Just a quick question. Couldn't you sell the race pump and get the street version and make the belt work? I think it would be cheaper that buying a remote mount and all the fittings and hose to make that work. Just thinking out loud.

Yea, i could. That is what i said in the last part of my first post, as my last option.. Im not a huge fan of it, and to be honest, i bet a remote pump is still cheaper. The remote HD pump, same as pump i had, just doesn't bolt to motor is 271. The plates that bolt to block is 85 bucks, so i need some -12 hose, and 2 y's, and a couple fittings.

The water pump you are talking about is 570ish dollars, but it is an option.. The other good part about remote water pump is i can fit a bigger turbo easier.

Thanks, Chris

I would have to re modify my radiator, or get a new one.. Not a super big deal, but not sure how much of a fan i am of it, because i forsee it maybe being in the way for Ic pipe...

I do love your setup alot, and i have been looking at it, just hard for me to justify the 1400 dollars right now, when i have a new griffin rad with -16's on it.

I can do remote pump for 271, i have -16 fittings, and hose, the block adapter from meizere is like 85 bucks, so i need to adapt the 12's to a 16, get some 12 hose and 12 fittings.. I think it can be done pretty cheap, and i think ive found my solution.. I will know for sure tomorrow.

Thanks Chris

ya that looks really good chris thats what I saw before. My buddy that builds chassie cars told me he wasn't a fan on the rad. mounted pumps, for a few cars hes worked on with them. And to get a normal mounted remote pump if I go that way. I made the thread about this over the winter, has some info but I never got around to getting anything.

Just looked over at the Meziere site. I couldnt find any of the 55 GPM pumps that cheap. What part number is that? I am looking at going the same route in my third gen swap. Thanks, Mike.

I think that price (271) is for a 20gpm pump. the 55gpm units are much more expensive.

I run a remote dual outlet meziere pump (WP337). I just run a hose from the bottom of the rad to the pump inlet, then two -12 lines to my block (lower ports).

meziere makes a -12oring to -16 fitting (for their block plates) so you can run -16s from your rad to motor.

Is there any reason that you couldn't reverse cool these motors? I mean most of the heat built in a motor is in the heads. Wouldn't it make sense to run the coolant through the heads first?

The 271 price is for a 42 gpm pump. I may end up going with the 55 gpm pump though, we will see..

I only have 2 fitting on radiator, and 4 fittings from motor.

Right now i think im going to get rid of one of the -16 on rad, put 2 -12 bungs, so i have one side taken care of. then go with a -16 from rad, to pump, and then 2 -12's out of the pump back to the block.
