Default ET Street tire pressure

My car 60s around 1.4-1.5 and runs low 7s eighth mile. I would say my race weight is low 3Ks.

Why do I have to run 20+ PSI? if I lower it I spin and the car is hard to drive. When I run 20+ the car hooks and goes down the track perfect. The lower I go the worse it gets. It seems most are running lower PSI than me. Any idea why I need more PSI to hook and go staight better?

When the pressure is low the tire spins a couple times and then hooks and while going down the track it sways back and forth and I have to steer it all the way to the end.

When running higher psi it just hooks and goes perfectly straight.

Running ET Street bias ply 26 11.5 15

Are most of the people you're referring to running the 26" tall tires? 20 does seem a bit high, but a smaller tire will generally take more pressure. I'm running 13.5 lbs in my 28x12.50x15. Feels just fine on the big end too.

Yes defintley my 60 is off and my ET suffers.

My car is very consistant. I bracket race and it usually does very well at being consistant as long as I keep the psi up.

LOL I'm defintley not complaining. I was just curious. The announcer at the track had the mic in the pits asking drivers questions and asked me what PSI I run and seemed to be suprised when I told him.

I don't think that is it. I have checked it with other gauges.

Yeah, just stick with that, does the psi change after warming up the tires? Is it 20 after a nice burn out or what?

Wow maybe i need to try that much air pressure lol. Mine does not like much air pressure around 11 cold. I have not tested with other air pressures. I use to run mine around 13 cold but it started spinning bad.

Thanks. My best 60 was on 26 11.5 17 ET Streets. Which was a 1.47. My best ET was on the tires I am running now. I know the car has a lot more in it, but I'm scared to change anything on the tune because it runs so consistant right now and being I bracket race I hate to mess with it. I know its running a little rich.

I hook best at 20 psi with MT street radials. I also spin if I go much lower. IDK, maybe it's because of the stock tire size I run (255/50/16).

I just got back from the track. I decided to try going up on the tire pressure. It actually seemed even better. Usually on tues the track prep and street cars make the track crap. I decided to try 26 PSI. the car had 26 PSI on each of these passes. On one pass I let out because it was elimation and I was way ahead, but going by my 60 and 330 I think it would have been 7.26

Its true every car is different, maybe the track prep had a big roll in this, go on a night when you know the prep is going to be different and try it out again and see what results you get, congrats on a consistant setup.
