Default Anyone remember 1998 LS1 drag racing?

I was digging thru some old emails and found these pictures of some OLD threads that Brooke had printed out from November of 1998. The old-school LS1.com guys will really appreciate these threads, they are HILLARIOUS by today's standards!

They are kinda big to download, here are two pages:

Patrick G runs 12s NA! page1 (170K)
Patrick G runs 12s NA! page2 (145K)

Anyone catch the hillarious title?

"12.62 @ 107 mph, 1.75 60', A4, 3.23, norm. aspirated!!"

Bwahahahaha! You newer LS1 guys don't laugh, this was the fastest all-motor LS1 back then, we didn't have many modifications for our cars. Back then everyone accused Patrick of spraying nitrous to "make an A4 fast". All he did was discover the benefits of a good torque converter before everyone else

I posted on the 2nd page, but my times were not until the third page. I think I only ran 13.1s or 13.2s back then LOL!

Enjoy!

Tony

Bwahahahaha! If you guys could only realize how awesome 1.7X 60' times and mid-12s were back in 1998!

Dang, that thread was from two days before I registered at LS1.com! At that point, I'd never even been to a drag strip...

DAMN!!!!

I remember watching some of these guys on LS1.com and in the MFBA at the time, primarily the automatic guys shooting for high 12's with nothing more than a drag radial and *maybe* a couple of bolt-ons and us 6 speed guys were shooting for low 13's.

That night was my second night at the strip. I met Nineball (in person) on my first trip 2 weeks earlier. He suggested I try an underdrive pulley and a cutout. I did and dropped almost 4/10 of a second. I was pretty much hooked after that.

LOL..... That's funny. Now you have people running mid to low 11s with a stock motor. Man how times change.

LOL,

Back in the day, we were making up our own rules, trying new mods every week. It was fun breaking our own records month after month. I enjoyed the grudge matches with Larry the most. We both had black Z-28s and we were both running a second faster than most LS1s out at the track. These days, we're only "mid-pack" haha.

Damn...I remember having the second fastest car on the board , 13.27 to David Titterymary's 13.11.

I also remembering the first time we saw someone go 12.97 in an A4 car. One of the Toronto guys did it, we ALL thought something was wrong with the lights and timing system.

Had an airbox and a few other of the little tricks at the time.

That was way before Patrick ran those times, April of 98, ran my best of 13.11 in August I think at St Thomas w/ Patman and the group.
