Banging my head against a wall.
Hey fellas. I HAD to try HRP last night before work.
The weather was looking pretty good and I wouldn't be getting in another chance until NEXT Friday.
Man that's a long time not to go racing. *grin*
Anyways, the things that I have done to the Pepper since the 10.66 runs were:
1. RCR , took out front bumper. (picked up a half MPH) Improvement? 124 to 124.6 mph. 11.8 e.t.'s
2. HRP, last time, got MTI dyno tuning (picked up a half MPH) Improvement? 124.6 to 125 mph. low 11.7's
3. HRP this time. New plugs, Little more MTI dyno time. We lowered my total timing a bit and picked up a few ponies. Tonight the weather was OK. A little humid, a funky SE wind that felt ... i don't know... stagnant-stale. (kind of like my times )
Tonight's results?
1st run. (right lane)
60' 1.414
330' 4.325
1/8 6.804
mph 99.68
1000' 8. 934
1/4 10.731
mph 125.31 <<<KILLER new MPH best!!!
The next run was about 40 mins later.
2nd run (left lane, no changes)
60' 1.419
330' 4.312
1/8 6.790
mph 99.45
1000' 8.930
1/4 10.741
mph 124.08
After that the temp wasn't falling any more, so I called it a night and went to work.
Temps were in the high 50's.
The car is consistent as heck. It never baubled or gave me any trouble. But it is clear that i am either going to have to mod something, get some GREAT air on a night the track is prepped heavily or a 10.5 is just not going to happen.
I keep banging on the door to 10.5’s but all I get out of this work I’m doing to the car is MPH. Dang it. I wanna see some E.T. improvement! Everytime I go to the track I pick up some MPH. But NO E.T.!
I am off work this whole weekend and have some "squirrel mods" that I want to do. I am hoping that with the weather, the new mods and a bit of luck, it will all come together. Hopefully I will crack off at least ONE 10.5 this year.
Any ways.. we'll see what the weekend brings.
Here was the weather for tonight around mid night.
Temp: 54
Dew Point: 50°F
Humidity: 94 %
Barometer: 30.14 inches and falling
Weather forecast for the weekend?
Fri, Feb 22 68°F 46°F
Sat, Feb 23, 72°F 50°F
Sun, Feb 24, 71°F 48°F
So while it's not going to be stellar this coming weekend... hopefully the new "little mods" I will be doing will give me the extra push I need. (fingers crossed.) I AM going Friday...any one else?
Anyone got any ideas on how to drop a tenth? How about two?!
p.s., I might have to try that metal intake manifold.

John,
You will defintly get the 10.5. If anyone can work a combo to its full potential its you.
Can I ask a favor? Can email the info on how you got the front bumper support out on 30 minutes. I'm looking at that job, and it looks to me like a 8-hour job. Take front bumper off, bunch of other stuff.
Thanks

and a third one would be a painless wiring harness..remove 200 lbs of stock wire from your ride and use the painless wire kit for a ls1.

Re: Banging my head against a wall.
John,
I went out to HRP on Saturday and the track was a lot less crowded than on a Friday or Sunday. There were practically NO street tire cars, so the launch pad was pretty good and very consistent all day. Enough for my weak-nut GT to cut 1.70-1.71's.

Re: Banging my head against a wall.
Hmmm, both ideas. But i'm not willing to go that far right now Frank.
A fiberglass hood I would consider.
This metal intake I would consider.
Getting after market steering wheel is food for thought.
Bigger tires...Ditto.
But to yank the wiring harness? ACK! man, im not THAT crazy....yet.
Anybody else?

I've considered that one (or something similar) myself. Any idea what is left out with the Painless harness? Factory gauges, interior lights, etc... Or is it just an engine harness only?

Re: Banging my head against a wall.
I just sent an email out to Painless asking that question of what if anything is left out and how much of a weight reduction are we talking about. I'm ALWAYS looking for something to reduce weight
Is there any link to see a stock flat Fiberglass hood?
Later

Yeah, I know the feeling. My 9.92 was only 134 MPH and my 9.91 was 136 MPH! Two MPH but only .01 reduction in ET. Man I gotta get this thing hookin'!
This wiring harness sounds interesting. Be sure to let us know what they say, Bob.

Re: Banging my head against a wall.
Trevor...heat? weather?
I dunno. I didnt change a thing.
It felt like te weather was getting cooler when we got there. I had dropped from 68 to 64 just on the drive over there. (the sun was going down)
And it kept on dropping. But once it was dark and the weahter hit the high 50's... it got muggy. Humidity went way up. Later around 8.30 the temp started to drop a bit again... not much, but because my trucks temp ambient temp gauge said it was 58 degrees when I was leaving the track.
i keep making more MPH, but my e.t. is not dropping. That leads me to beleive these mods/tuning i'm doing are making the more more effecient and making more power...but either the air is just not good enough or the track prep is just a little off and I'm spinning just a tad- so little I cant feel it and no one can see it.
Personally I think it is the air coupled with a non-perfect track. The night I ran the 1.3 60's the track was in prep for sat's Pro Mod shoot out. So there was a LOT of rubber down. Man, we were hooking that night!
I'll keep knocking on the door... maybe I can get in that elusive 10.5 run. (heck right now I would be happy with a 10.61) I just want to see some kind of E.T. improvement. (dang it)
Colonel, with all the mods your doing and track time your putting in. You'll ge that 9.8. Ya just gott a have faith! Trust in "Tha' MAN".

I meant to say 1 inch taller/wider slicks. You are fast on the answer

Re: Banging my head against a wall.
Hey John, I'm getting ready to start my heads/cam swap(Next weekend). Our setups are pretty damn close as far as head flow(315I and 240e at .600),XE-R profile cam(226 on a 112+4), raceweight(3150-3180),4L60e with tp4400, etc. My question is about pcm tuning. I dont have anyone close by here in NC that can do some serious dyno tuning. I'm wondering if Jason at MTI could get it pretty much on the money if I sent him my processor? He seems to have had great success with you and many others. Texas is just too far for me to carry the car (well right now anyhow). Do you think he can get it close enough without having the car to dyno tune? I too want to see some 10.60's and HOPEFULLY 10.50's. Thanks.

Ok John, I wasn't going to let you in on all my secrets , but you do sound desperate.Inflate the tires with nitrogen, helium or something lighter than air, eliminate valve stem caps(all 4),radio antenna, put yourself on a diet, purge the stomach and intestines before the run, shave your head and go Comando.(lol)Or you could justuse "my Skinny *** mod" and let me drive that hair raising "Pepper" Monster.
