Default 6500 rpms / 7500 rpms/ 8500 rpm what is better?

Seems to me there has to be a point of diminishing returns.

I can see running a 5000-5500 stall and shifting at 7500 rpms. But how about 8500 rpms?

Obviously anything over a 5000 stall is not really streetable...

I'm just curious as to where the practical upper limit is...

For a Street car I wouldnt want to rev it to 7500 due to the wear it puts on the bottom end. I can see having a motor that will pull 8500 for track use only.

For a daily driver/weekend warrior setup I wouldnt want to make peak hp any higher than 6500.

rev it as high as you want but you'll need a heads/intake/cam/gear/stall combo to match your needs. Also car needs to be light

problem with a LS1 is the intake as SAM has proved with their orange car

maybe with the holley intake it will be able to breathe better up high

i still dont understand why no one has made a carb style intake yet

Jimmy, sure I know, I'm assuming that each example has the right parts.

Take for example the 7500 example vs the 8500 example.

Hell you can use a C5R block and a 3.48 custom stroke crankshaft and buzz it up to the moon. But what is the ceiling? When does it become no longer advantageous to run a lot of rpms.

It's a pretty generic question IMO. There are a LOT of factors: cam specs, hydraulic vs. solid, head flow, cubic inches, intake manifold, etc. You're only looking to buzz it a few hundred RPM past peak HP. It's only advantageous when you're using the power that's there. You damn sure want to have a nice oiling system to support those kind of RPM's! I'm personally a big fan of the BBC's. I shifted my 468 '67 Chevy II at 6k to run mid-10's.

Yeah it is pretty generic LOL.

I think that 7500 is probably the limit of a streetable car. Even then it would probably need to be a solid lifter motor

Well i could explain more but you have to give more criteria like:

are you talking all out race car with a cubic inch limitation?

are you talking about a street car with a good torque curve?

maybe a street car you can run on radials but make the motor on the top end?

give me a more specific question and i could answer it, i did a lot of research on theory/power that destrokers make or high wingn' motors

just need a more specific question...if im assuming right you are kinda asking what the limit is on a streetable smallblock making power up top?

Well in my opinion i'd say in the 8000rpm range. That sounds like a lot to people but what many dont realize is the gearing/converter you'd run would put you in the power range really fast

now is this practical or even a good idea= no
can it be done and made to be somewhat fun= yes

if there was an affordable carb intake I would at least try it probably like this weekend

problem with carbs though its kinda like you have to tune it for good daily driving or just all out. not much inbetween, I could be wrong but that is my thoughts

oh and if you can actually make power at higher RPMS then you will always make more power

just TQ curve will be moved up all the time

i just meant a "carb-like" intake. Kinda like the Accel pro-ram
