Default Weight reduction guys

So I'm Slowly running out of free things to take off my car and was wondering before you guys started to spend money what were your weights ? I added all the things I did according to the sticky and its saying that I took out between 500-600 pounds . I doubt this is right but the only things left I haven't removed is the Abs , power steering and airbags / what ever is behind the dash since I have yet to remove that. The only money I spent was on a kirkey instead of the stock leather power seat.

My cars a 99 Camaro hard top. I'm hoping I should be in the 30xx range now maybe lower?

That figure you quoted is way off, as is a lot of those weights in that sticky. I have a thread where Ive documented most of my weight loss with parts weighed as they come off the car. My car weighs 2950 at the moment with full interior, full exhaust, and 18" wheels. I doubt there is much more to get without completely butchering the car which i wont do. Weight reduction starts about page 5. Lots of pics.

With a stock kmember and all stock control arms, wheels, shocks. I will guess your at 3300. You will be Lucy to get it to 3200. Don't believe all those weight reduction weights. Nothing is as heavy as you think. I can tell you that we have almost every weight reduction item in chrome moly that you can get. Without cutting up the front end or ttop well. Even all lightweight internals in the trans. Only thing added was a 16 point chrome moly cage, two 10lb bottles of nos, and 12 gals of fuel. The car still weighs 3000lbs. For what it's worth.

No offence or anything dude. But I would have to see that on scales to believe that figure. Don't you still have the stock kmember, control arms, brakes, and I know those wheels are heavy. I would have to think your at 3200 to 3300 yourself. Again no offence.

I was right at 3,200 on the scales with no driver, 1/4 tank of gas and a 10 pound nitrous bottle and nitrous kit. That was with gutted interior except stock cloth power driver's seat, console and air bags. Also removed front sway bar and have coilovers on all fours and borla catback. Car is otherwise stock weight with z28 wheels, exhaust manifolds and cats.

I've since deleted HVAC, EGR, AIR, ABS and Pass air bag so I'm hoping for a 50 - 75 lbs reduction. So hopefully down to 3,125 - 3,150. I'm hoping for the 2,950 - 3,000 range with some additional weight reduction (and no roll bar yet) such as lexan rear glass, lithium battery, fiberglass pin on hood, tubular front suspension and k-member, spindles, drag brakes, bumper crash bars, manual steering and front skinnies. But all of those are $$$$ mods and not cheap. And a lot of $$$ for a couple of 10ths.

I'm very interested once my car is running to see where the weight is. I was bored one night at started taking all the seam sealer off and did a handful of hole saws in spots. I was hoping to be in that low 31xx range or 30xx without buying to many parts. I plan on doing suspension parts next year .

Brother, read my thread and you would answer all your own questions. My car has all tubular suspension, gutted dash, strange brakes x4, lexan windows front and rear, cut out spare tire well, manual brakes + seats, deleted everything, lightweight carpet etc etc etc. It took me a **** of a long time and money to get here. Its been a long but rewarding journey. And yes, it has been to a scale see below. It was 3120 in this pic and I meticulously kept records since that weigh in. Will get a final weight soon as Im just about done with this crap and going for more hp.

Last time I looked at your car, it appeared pretty much stock. Guess I didn't read that. My bad.

Thanks, that's a compliment. I've tried very hard to keep a stock appearance, even the lexan windows you can't tell unless you really look upclose. Driving down the hwy you would basically think my car is full weight, which is what I was going for. I have no desire to have a gutted car.

weight quickly goes back on though once you start to add horsepower have to beef up the drivetrain and cage it

I'm staying aluminum block, may go 80e one day (50 pounds), and already have a spooled 12 bolt....and I will likely never add a cage. So I'm good. If I need the 80e and a cage, the hp will be high enough I won't care about the extra 100 pounds or whatever.

I think that is very attainable, especially if you have headers and catless mids.

31XX is easily doable without getting expensive. Tubular suspension, brakes, and easy weight reduction go along ways.

Your car definitely looks real good. What I meant was when I looked at your photo album. Your car had all stock suspension, wheels, brakes, shocks, full exhaust and Kmember. We have Lexan windshield and rear deck window too. Along with a VFN lightweight hatch, and 5lb hood. And no exhaust with light weight wheels. We didn't cut the car up at all. Only removed some, but not all, unneeded brackets. No hole sawing. The only added weight is the cage, sub frame connectors, nos bottles, wheelie bars, chute, and a S60. And we are still at 3000lbs. Either buy or ask someone to barrow a good set of scales. Because that scale your car is sitting on in that picture, is most likely not that accurate. Used to drive truck, and if you went on ten different scales like that. They would all show different weights.

01ssredA4 I read your build a few times . I was the one a few days ago who was on fb posting your link about weight reduction. If I had more funds I would buy some parts to even lighter but for now just trying to get everything I can out of the car.

I just may do that. I know someone with scales. When I added up MY actual parts weight of things removed, and "guessed" the car weigh 3450 stock, Im exactly on point with that scale weight, so Im confident its right or pretty dang close. I have two CAT scales within a couple miles of my house I may try them both the same day and see the results. And yeah you're talking about my old old albums, yes the suspension and all was stock back then.

Depends on what your idea of gutted is i guess?? Im planning on keep everything for appearance, stock dash, door panels, carpet, etc. The only power will be windows, locks, and power steering. It has full exhaust so its not terribly loud inside. I don't consider that gutted compared to other cars Ive seen.
