Default Roll cage, rear, control arms: My por 15 review

Today I decided to try some POR15 on my rear end housing(9"), rear lower control arms and some of the roll cage. My dad used some when he restored his MG but never really looked into it until a couple of days ago when someone posted here about roll cage paint. We'll I ordered the 6 pack on wednesday and got it thursday. I was tied up friday and saturday so this morning I decided to pull my rear out and paint it. I can say this so far the product has exceeded my expectations.

My rear was orginally painted black with some Krylon Tough stuff. I used some aircraft paint remover and the paint fell off. There were already some spots where I hit the rear with something and the paint was chipped. I can tell you this, the Krylon wasn't durable. My roll cage in my corvette was also krylon painted and it was very beatup on the door bars.

Anywho, I complete the two step process to clean the metal which I really could have done without but it only took 20 minutes or so. The POR15 went on easy, initally had the brush streaks but after 5 minutes they were gone. I ended up painting the rear, rear control arms and some of the roll cage. I ran some errands and was back about 4 hours later. The por15 had setup and seemed hard as a rock. The finish was a VERY high gloss just like a new car. I smacked a 15mm wrench on the side of the rear and it didn't chip. All I can say is I am never using normal spray paint if I can use POR15. I'd recommend it to anyone who needs a TOUGH almost show quality look.

My POR15 is on the way from ebay.

Where did you get yours?
How much did it take to paint the rear? I plan on painting my rear and cage and part of the subframe.

They have had ads in all the popular mags for at least 10 yrs now, NPD(resto parts) keeps it in stock last time I checked. Good for coating the exhaust even on turbo kits, heard it smokes for a little while though.

I got the 6 pack, used less than half of the container, painted the rear from backing plate to backing plate including 3rd member, two rear control arms, 2 upper control arms and some of the cage and still had some left over.

Wish I did the POR-15 on my rear. Instead I went the cheap route and bought some Tough Gaurd. Not so tough. I will get POR-15 next time.

I'd imagine a small container from the 6 pack would paint all of it.

The Blackcote is UV safe where as the regular POR15 would kinda of haze and turn alittle white. Im not sure if the Chassis Coat black is UV safe or not tho.
