As for the combo you want to do. It sounds like what mine is so keep your eye out for it. I did the 4.100 stroke for the main reason of it was what they had being built and a little longer rod wouldn't hurt. I should have it built in the next few weeks and on the dyno.
We tossed around a few different stroke combinations and we wanted to find a good combination of stroke vs gearing out back. With a converter and tranny package that sees less than 4% slippage out the back door our choices seem to be pretty clear. Shawn is setting up the motor to be low RPM torque monsters and maximize the tranny. We're hoping to see 1-2% slippage out the back door next year with an even tighter converter.

Wait, you said tighter? I thought you already blew everyone's mind with spooling the turbo as is?

Just for an idea of the torque the motor makes.... 4 1/2# of boost at 4000 rpms nets a 1.28 60' with the wastegates hanging open. Most other guys leave at 10-12@ of boost with more RPM.

I'm so envious right now. I'd like to get under 10-12%, lol.

Always nice to start with a clean slate. I'm hoping this 408 sells myself just for that reason. It's a good piece with alot of good parts, but it's always better to be able to start from scratch with stuff that's all meant to work together
I'm sure, with a marcella sheet metal it will probably do what I want... but it's gonna have to be on kill all the time to do it.

I was implying ET's and what not........not Shawn's tricks of the trade. Get the motor built and lets see how fast she can fly!!! Best of luck.

aw, come on. its not like you need to give us head flow numbers, cam cards, intake specs, etc

You know Shawn gets under my skin sometimes. So we're talking and he is like.... "You know I really want a fresh slate to start with and the block is a good start. What do you think about a new set of canted valve heads". WTF kinda **** is that. Thats like smoking crack infront of a crack addict.

So now we're going with a ~455" RHS, Bryant CCW Billet Crank, GRP rods, JE Pistons with N/A Compression , Jesel Rockers, PI/Mast Mozez heads, New Sheetmetal intake with 16 injectors from John M marcella and some tranny mods to lower the converter slippage.

I'm sorry you lost your engine on the first outing. No matter which way you look at it after that much work it sucks. It's crazy you guys are looking for less than 4% slip. I know some people who'd kill for those kind of numbers.

Well you got 2 ways you can go. You can make a low torque high RPM motor or a high torque low RPM motor. With a low torque high RPM motor your going to fight, loose converter to get it to spool, excessive converter slippage out the back door which will make you run a bunch of RPM. You will eventually change to 3.20 or 3.25s which will make your ability to 60' even harder. This combo will definitely be harder on valvetrain parts.

With our tranny package, 8500 RPMs will net 210-212mph. The comparable 10% numbers works out to 194. Basically its a system that has to work together and every piece effects the next.

Do you consider 8500 low rpm for a 455 ?

it's not high. The engine will be capable of 9000rpm without much problem. Were not leaving much on the table on this build.

If this is Phil's example of a high torque low rpm motor how much rpm does a low torque high rpm turbo motor spin? I do agree on building an engine to make as much naturally aspirated torque (with some differences) and having a proper turbo system to match.
