Its all good, I have probably 2-3 days of cutting/welding/painting and then we can throw the motor back in.

Fabrication is done.
Chassis work is done.
Waiting on a set of cometic gaskets to finish off the motor.
Just need to clean up the parts and put the motor back in.

Spark plugs appear to be moved just ever soo slightly so the one that was a pain to get out is almost impossible, working on a custom tool to make it happen
ordered 2" header gaskets only to find that the company punched them off so the ports dont line up
EGT probes hit the valve cover, needed to machine down the valve cover rail and bend the crap out of the EGTs to get it to fit

Your right, the spark plugs changed "just enough" to where the #2 and #4 are a PITA for me. I bought a spark plug socket with the 3/8 swivel built into it, with a 3/8 to 1/4" adapter so I can use a 1/4" ratchet. I have specific tools that I leave i my carb tool tray for doing plugs I've changed plugs sooo many times that I know exactly what tool to use for each plug now. Now the first time I did plugs with the Mozez heads....

I use the 6.0L or LS2 GM header gaskets and they are larger than the port on the head, and work perfect with a 2" Kooks header

I have a spark plug socket that has provision to use a 3/4" wrench on the end of it.
Then I have a 3/4 wrench I cut in half so its easy to get in there.

Used to be able to change all 8 in 10-15 mins.
With these new headers I'm thinkin 20-25. LOL !

We are hoping to make the 8/26 ODR race at MIR .... hope to see you there Phil.

Can't wait to see your car at Eddyville this weekend, I'll be sure to stop by to cream myself and ask a bunch of questions! I'll be in one of my YB shirts and hat most likely.

I tried that too with the 3/4" socket, but the header primary was in the way for the #2 plug. Other than that one, the rest are pretty easy though. The swivel was the easiest way to do plugs due to the shock tower clearance.

I'm curious to see how your headers turned out, any pictures you would want to email me?

I'm loading the car up tonight or tomorrow, so as of right now I plan on making the trip out there. I just hope I can make it down the track

I'm kinda thinking I am going to have to back the power down a little on the line due to not knowing what the track conditions will be.

I'll check out the gaskets. I took a socket, cut it as short as possible drilled the end out and welded a very low profile 1/4" swivel onto the end. I'll upload some pics when I get a chance.

With you having experience on a radial I think you'll be fine. The people who can't hook their car up are the ones who "know everything" and think the track prep is **** when everyone else is getting down just fine.

I worked this morning on getting the headers/gasket issue taken care of. From what I have seen comparing 3 known good gaskets, the exhaust ports are moved towards 1:30 position maybe .125 to .150. I initally got a set of 1.92 header gaskets and noticed that the ports were off, chalked it up to that they were cut wrong. Looked at 2 more sets from 2 different companies and they are all off. So I had to move the bolts 4mm to the right and 2mm down to get the ports to line up. I had to enlarge the gasket ever soo slightly but they line up now with the bolt holes relocated.

I am probably going to pull the header off and grind the 1:30 position of the flange to allow for a smoother transition.

We just opened the flange and gaskets up.

When is it going to be ready? 8/26 race?

Am I reading this right? You moved the bolt holes in the head 2mm and 4mm. Ummmm if so, how and why? Would it not have been easier to just clearance the gasket and the flange?

Phil is a hell of a fab guy, but I don't think he'd want to go through that kind of work for a gasket..... Then again... we are talking about Phil !1

I'll eventually see if cometic can make gaskets that fit correctly without any modifications. I would have ground out the port hole on the gasket but the material is thin enough as it is(width wise), I'd rather move the gasket to the correct spot and enlarge the bolt holes.

I am still working on the spark plug access. My 1st tool I made was a combination of 3 pieces, impact 1/4 drive swivel, 5/8" socket and a 7/16" socket. I cut the socket end off the swivel so its only got a pad where the hex side would usually go. Cut .300 off the 5/8" socket for the engagement portion. Cut the 7/16" socket down as short as possible where the top of the plug was flush with the drive end of the socket and the bottom of the socket was flush with the shoulder before the threads. Basically it fits like a glove around the spark plug. That tool works on my #3 plug like a champ. 2,4,6,8,1,5 are fine with standard toolds. Now just got to figure out #7. Been brainstorming it today and have a plan.

Once I get the spark plug issue resolved the motor goes in for the last time and will finish putting it back together.

Knowing what I know now, we would have made changes a while ago. Too many fricken headaches to deal with. When are you guys realistically going to be out testing?
