Tried to take some pics but black is hard to photograph, car looks incredible. I'm about 40% done with the buffing.

Well everyone can see the paint is finally done. It took more time than we had expected but we learned alot of good things on the way. We were going to have a local shop paint it but I felt like he was trying to break the bill off in my A$$. We went back and started over with a 2 part urethane primer and finished some body work we missed. He painted it in his garage that we did our best in sealing off but there was still some crap in the paint that came out when we wet sanded it. I picked up the car today and it was sanded with 2000. I used a Cutting and Polishing Waffle pad with two different compounds. I have not done the final step but its pretty damn close. The car looks soo damn good in person its not funny. Is it perfect, nope but its pretty damn close.

Looks good phill. It looks like you using the polishing pad to compound with. The white pad is for compound and the black pad is for polishing. After you polish it with the black pad, buy the blue one and the blue ultra fine polish (3M) it will really bring out the shine in a black finish. I always take it one step further with black paint.

Also watch letting the compound dry on the door jambs, that stuff is hard to get off when it dries lol.

Keep up the great work!

Oh, congrats on your lil one! We just had our first, a little girl. She will be 6months on the 19th. She's the apple of my eye. And I just finished her first car. It's a antique metal pedal car I restored and painted pink lol.

Thanks for the tips. I've been using Dupont 1500S medium cut with a medium cut white waffle pad for the first step. After that I've been using the medium cut with a gray polishing pad(fine cut). Third step I switch to 3m Finesse it finishing compound with a polishing pad.

Looks great! Don't forget, use the blue pad and ultra fine polish on the final polish. You will thank me for the tip. LOL. It takes the shine to another level.

I've been working as much as I can on the car and we've hit some road blocks that I hope to have resolved this week. The dry sump has been soo much of a pain its not funny.

- The pan had to be machined on a mill to clearance for ARP main studs where the windage tray bolted on.

- Starter now doesn't fit because the pan is buldged out on that side but the mount can be machined to shorten it up which *MAY* work with the pan, inital fitting showed the mount hitting the pan

- -12 fittings have a good sized radius and there is just not enough room for fittings ontop and botton of the dry sump, my dad picked up 2 - 90 degree AN to ORB fittings that we're going to try this week to clear up the clearance issue with the K-member

- Next problem is the steering rack, I forgot to check the clearance between the steering rack and the dry sump pump but we've got issues there, I'm crossing my fingers that I can roll the steering rack down 60 degrees so the output shaft that goes to the steering column. The steering rack output shaft would be flat or parallel to the ground and may need to be shortened to work, the hole in the firewall may need to be dropped an inch or 2 to get it to work.

- Still need to fabricate 2 more x-braces for the cage

Nope because an F-body isn't a magical car where everything fits right he first time.

I've had a very tough time trying to get ample clearance on the dry sump, tried the pump in at least 8 positions. The only one that works is pulling the pump out and running it off the very forward drive. There is not enough room to run it off the back of the ATI damper, any thoughts are welcome.

Pulled pump out, way out. Moved the bracket from between the first two pumps to the 2nd/third pump. Changed from the back of the plate to the front of the plate.

had to use an assortment of fittings to change the hose height to clear

shorty hose still 4-5"

2nd section hose

3rd section hose

Last section hose
