Phil, I don't know whether you or Shawn could accurately answer this, but what do you believe the freshening intervals will be on the motor? With this much time and money in parts i'm guessing at least 2-3 seasons if the rods will hold.

 

What it will be, who knows. What I want, 1 season.

Most motors of this type usually are torn down in teh offseason to go through, and freshen up. Obviously that is not always teh case, and you break stuff and motor has be torn down sooner.

 

an addition 1K in machine work for reliability is a no brainer. Shawn should be able to sell a lot of blocks to guys looking to make big power in high rpm ranges.

 

phil- do you regret using the lsx platform instead of a SBC or BBC?

 

unfortunately there isnt a lot of people do this with ls motors right now.maybe in the future

 

I would hope not. I personally think the best is yet to come. You look at how the SBC and BBC have come since there inception, and how long they have been out, and then you look at teh LSx stuff and how long it has been out (relatively short compared to SBC & BBC) and the LSx stuff is WAY ahead of teh curve. Now, I know that technology itself has come a long way since "back in teh day" but you still have too look at we are JUST getting started with teh LSx stuff. I mean, who knows what will come out next, but what I can tell you there is enough fanfare out there for the LSx that more and more **** will start coming out of the woodworks. Just look at what that little old H.O. 5.0 did for Ford and next thing you know, you have little old 302's kicking SBC's *** @ teh same cost. 20 yrs ago, the thought of building a SBF @ same cost as a SBC and being competitive was unheard of. Not anymore. I can almost guarantee you that will be the case for teh LSx vs. SBC/BBC stuff in the years to come.

 

Its easy to say that you are "pioneering" a new platform or however you want to quantify it to yourself. Who cares though. If I really wanted to go fast and had MY dollars on the deal, it would be something that was proven to at the very least have some track record of durability. Its always fun to say you went the path less travelled. It just often times comes with the ouch of money and frustration.

 

Ahhh. I could go either way between the BBC and LSx. I *think* the LSx will be reliable with our latest round of upgrades that Shawn is doing on the LSx.

Knowing what I know now, I would have taken the motor to Shawn @ Virginia Speed to build the first time.

as we see several cars its no longer an issue of making HP its the issue of money.....
people are now having to detune the hell out of these SS cars and sloooooowly bring in ALL their power (if they can even get all their power down on the far end of the track)

its almost like top fuel trying to keep the wheel speed in check...

the concern is no longer HP its tunning the chassis or power curve...

 

Can't follow else you'll always be in 2nd. Hey on a side note who from "Glen Burnie" said that Virginia Speed didn't have a motor stay together as of yet? Its kinda fucked up people are taking shots at local vendors for no apparent reason.

 

lol, that is true. I like that. I'm getting ready to try my hand at ATV racing. I'll keep that in mind.

Last piece of the puzzle is finally on its was. Engine should be back together in 2 weeks and hopefully ready for some test hits in 4. We will be trying to use 60# of Co2 on the backhalf of the track.
