Default WHo else makes a street based front runner beside M/T?

I THINK I may have found my vibration, both front runners have a "wop" in them. The spot is NOT where they were sitting on the floor. Looks almost like seperated belts.....they are wearing funny also.

These are the 4 ply Mikey Thompson "Sportsman" front runner.....my car is 3800lbs with driver, I need the 8 ply part #1573? 1572 is on the car now.

I will not put the volkswagen tires on the front.....not EVEN going there, you guys that do that crap are WAY more brave than me!

Any input appreciated.

M/T makes a very nice radial front runner with a kind of flame tread pattern and a stiff sidewall...which is something you need for a heavy car on skinnies..I think they are called S/R front runners...They ain't cheap, though..like $167/each...I have a set waiting for me at my local shop now to replace my VW junk...

M/T makes a sportsman 8 ply bias ply for cars over 3000lbs, I will probably get those....112.95 each, I have the 4 ply on there now which is what probably made them mess up.

You are not the first person to report weird wobbles, etc, though...I have another buddy who had a lighter car, used the 8 ply as a precaution anyway and still had weird wobbles and handling characteristics at the track...Just FYI... He said it felt as though the tread was folding over onto itself somehow...

Car has a vibration since coming back from the track, thought it was rear end problem. But the tires have flat spots on them, not from sliding or anything like that....like a seperated belt type deal.

Is it ok to drive a race type frontrunner on the street? A DS2 or the like?

I have the 8-ply MT Sportsmans and they have seen a ton of street time and some 11 second track time on my G-Body.

No problems to report so far.

Other tire options are Hoosier and M&H; they both offer street legal radial and biased-ply front tires in "front runner" sizes.

i would run the 8 ply sportsman or the new S/R radial from m/t. the 8 ply are used by tons of street cars and wear pretty decent. the 4 ply is NOT appropriate for a heavy car like yours and the sidewall is deflecting like crazy.

Yeh, I bought them used for a good deal. At the time I did not know there were 2 versions of this tire.

I will look into the 8 ply, seems to be the cheapest option as of now.

Make sure they didnt get clogged up with VHT at the track, I had that happen once with some sportsmans. After driving back from the track I noticed a good sized vibration and there was two spots that looked like flatspots in each front tire and it took an hour to clean all the VHT, dirt and goo out of the tread. You would have thought that stuff would have come out on its own driving 60 miles at 55-65mph.

i have run the m/t sportman for 15yrs with out any problems. you can run the drag only but they will ware out fast. the only time i have had a problem is come from a 5-6ft wheelie and braking a cord in the tire.

The car in my avatar is with a 17x5 inch wheel,185-55-17 version. They would work good with a 4 inch wheel. Video is unmounted http://www.mandhtires.com/product_videos/185-75-15.wm D.O.T. A sturdy tire with a soft compound.

Just a heads up to guys on here. I got a buddy with a Chevelle it had front runners on it.

The size was 195/70/15 These are identical in height to a 26x 7.5x15 MT sporstman front just a hair wider....I am going to try these.

Protrac makes a front runner, it's close to 26"

I run 165's on mine, I don't know who makes them but I know a 520 or 560 is also a good front size not sure who or if they still make them.
