So you would spend all that money for what? To be the hero of test and tune? That car would never serve any purpose nor fit any class unless you wanted to race some unlimited class. A big inch big block project makes sense if it fits the class you want to run, but who on this board can afford something like that Sonny's engine?

There are a lot of classes to run that motor in, pro street, outlaw 10.5w, a lot of classes have no limits on engine size and let the tire be the deciding factor, a lot of current classes are running power plants that are well over 2,000 hp.

On this board who can or can't afford it, who knows that's not my business who has money, but there are a lot of nice, fast cars around these days on a lot of boards and several of them are over the 2,000 hp range.

Personally I think a pro charger or turbo is the way to go these days but for the nitrous guys that motor would be a killer base to add some stages to.

It's not about being the hero of test and tune, if you want to be competitive in several classes these days, which are already over 2,000 hp you better put some money in your bullet and hope it fires when you stage it up

Even the drag radial classes are making big time power, a friend of mine right now is building a motor to make over 2,000 hp with a big centrifugal blower to run on a 275 60 15 drag radial. The days of making 500 hp and running a small tire and being competitive are long gone. Guys these days are all about big power and traction controls and boost timers.

Take a look at this video and you'll see what one of the milder turbo motor makes.

for instance brady's car it was a 540 or 555 BC with a F3 on it.....i'd guess it was making around 2k hp

a true 10.5 car i believe.... runs 190ish mph i believe on stock suspension

thats no unicorn either... other cars do it.... crazy these days...

LOL yep and everyone was in a rush to make 1500, then 2000 and now it is going to be 2500 hp, multistage variable timing boost controllers, high dollar programmable ignitions and traction controls to go fast and keep up with the jones', some people have no idea with all that torque trying to put something like that down on a drag radial is not something you just go out and do. A lot of those cars already exceed what IHRA pro stock motors make, I mean 1,700+ torque is a lot of hurt on those little radials lol.

I think it is out of control and these classes make guys weigh 3,400+ pounds and they are up to 200 mph now, it's just getting out of hand, I would hate to see something 3,600 pounds crash at 200 mph.

My buddy is building a 2,000 hp blown setup and by the time he gets it done there will be someone else with 300 more hp running in the same class putting it down on the same 276 60 15 drag radial

the only thing to make it stop would be a small payout (2k$ max) or just a trophy to win.... they keep paying 5k$-20k$ and of course people from all over will show up...

these "street" car classes are becoming im possible to run in for some one even on a 30k$ budget for a whole car..... im not saying my car has 30K in it but its close to 20k-25k and im just shooting for 5.4x in the 1/8th... if that happens ill be impressed with my production gm BBC and a plate and fogger

**** most people in the street car class have more than $30k in just the motor. Once you go past the 1,000 hp mark it's a step up in trans and drive line, after 1,700-1,800 hp time for a whole new trans, converter and drive line. $2k for a converter, $5k for a monster glide, it's a big step up money wise once you get going that fast.

The 10.5 outlaw and drag radial classes are going to be big money and very competitive, after a while it'll pretty much be a bunch of pro stock chassis with stock or modified suspension with everyone making over 2,000 hp. It won't be long before the 6 sec barrier is broke.

There is more than enough power out there, it is just the first person to put it to the ground, but whoever is the 1st 6 sec drag radial car is going to have one big name for a long time to come and I sure am not spending that much money trying to do it

I have no idea what my car will make or run but I am building it 25.2 full tube frame, 33.5 or 34.5x17-16 and trying to make close to 2,000 hp with twins on a old junk BBC it runs what it run and takes as long as it takes to finish, one thing I know, it's gonna be one fun ride.

Ok been a while since I posted. Got the intake manifold back, ordered pushrods after measuring and new link bars for the lifters. Come to find out as I was putting everything together that one of the lifters at the base of the cutaway was bent and when put together with the link bar wouldn't slide into the lifter bore so I have to get a new one from Comp. Pictures below show the bend and also you can see the crack on one side of it. In the blurry picture you can kind of see the highlighted cracks on both the top and bottom.

Still working on the headers. They no longer bolt up with the RHS heads like they did when I mocked up with the stock 990's. Hitting the k-member really bad so I'll have to relief cut them and bend them up so they will fit. I'm so glad they were only $150, lol. Eventually I'll get a set made, but I'm not at the point yet where I say screw it and buy a $1300 set of headers.

To minimize down time I ordered a single lifter from Jegs and then when Comp sends the replacement I would just return that to Jegs. Well today I got the replacement and well I'm just kinda ticked. I ordered an 888-1 which should be a single lifter of the 888-16 set I had ordered. Instead I got this, the lifter on the left. I'm not sure exactly what happened but obviously the lifter on the left isn't a HIPPO lifter like the other 15 I have. Guess I have to wait another week or so for Comp to get back with me about the cracked one I sent back to them cause these lifters are still on back order everywhere.

Nice! It will be a tight squeeze to get that blower to clear though and will probably require a lexan windshield and some generous trimming!

I got further on the project this weekend. I got the valvetrain in and lash set at .020 cold. I'm hoping that .020 cold translates to .015 hot but of course I'll check it after I get it broken in.

Installed the balancer, crank trigger and spaced out the alternator bracket so the pulley lines up.

Got the manifold on there with gaskets (dry) so I can mock up the throttle body again and make a template. I used an old one I made and it was really close so I think I'm good to go, just a few minor adjustments. I left it dry so I can pull it back off and prime the engine right before I start it instead of priming it and then letting it sit for a long time.

Anyway here are some random pics of stuff. Notice on the manifold how well the ports all line up. Yes I'm proud of how well I marked the intake

My guess would be windshield clearance.
