I swear, people wonder why I hate on 4l60's. Look at the problems.. I know having no overdrive sucks on the street, but really don't know if the headaches are worth it.

I have no choice, I need overdrive to go anywhere. Other than a 4l80 I could only go M6. 4L60 will take low 11's no sweat, its' finding somebody who can build em' half decent. My stocker took it fine it was just the clutchpaks. I'm gonna rebuild the stock one locally and burn the other one.

Burning the other one, that definately gets my vote LOL.

Get the other one done locally, it's worth a shot. Then once that's working maybe take the bad one that's in the car now to the same guy, see if he can't fix it. I'd want a spare laying around if I was stuck with that.

M6 guys have other issues, everything in teh driveline is suspect to breaking with hard launches, clutch problems that never seem to end or go away...

4l80 seems like the only real choice, but it's a heavy ****. But, I thin kI'd rather have the weight and a tranny that works.

Start looking for one of those in local junkyards. Sooner then later you'll happen across a good core to get built and then be done with it once and for all.

No more panhard bar at all?
The panhard bar keeps the rear end centered, you still use that. The big anti-roll bar is not needed to keep the car flat. No anti-roll bar at all.

I have a picture, but don't know how to put it up here (I'm old). If you want t0 email me I'll attach it to the relpy.

Did some digging and this is what I came up with. I've got a set of beefy rod ended control arms, and this doesn't look to hard to fab up with a little plate steel and rod ends.

Yep, I ran nines (NA 383" LT1) with a 4L60E.

Where is the thread you refer to? Got a link?

those on ed's car seem to have a longer top bar than the pete z bars. and this setup works. ed's remind me of the morison gazan setup that was created in the late 80's early 90's for the 3rd gens and then adapted by other companies.

Yup the 4L60E will run Nines no problems if built correctly.

I just made the desicion to go with a TH400 and a brake because I was to broke to buy a new input and output shafts

I have built a few Nine Sec 4L60E's

No thanks. I'd rather put a th400 in a car and just change fluid a couple times a year then even waste my time trying to geta 4ljunkie to stay together.

Even if you get it to stay together, I promise, you have spent a ton of time and $ trying to get it to stay together, and it won't for long. Th400, you can run that into the 8's with pretty much any unit bought by any performance tranny guy and have no problems.

Plus no electronic crap to go wrong, another big + IMO.

**** there's guys around here with level 4 flp's, top of the line performabuilt and they're puking them all over the place. If you can actually build one that styas together you need to become a sponsor and start doing it for guys with mid 11 second h/c cars that can't keep a tranny in the car for more then a month without it going to ****.

I just speak the truth. I have no bias towards any tranny guy, I'm not gonna make a cent or have it cost me a cent either way, I just call them how I see them. And I've been watching 11 second cars puke 4ljunkie tranny's for years.

Sure, there's a couple guys with them that have gone into the 9's, but I am 100% sure that they aren't telling the whole story because they have a tranny guy that's helping them out and they're trying to send them business.

Is what it is. be what it be, the 4ljunkie -E is not for me

It's funny that guys can run the orignal trans for a couple of years before it brakes, have it "built" and break them over and over. That is the builder, not the trans. Mine (the exact unit that came in the car new in 1996) got a 3-4 clutch pack every winter whether it needed it or not. If an eleven second car breaks several, he needs a new tranny builder. We tried a few new things with mine that didn't work, but failures were few and far between. I bracket raced it every week, and usually tested on Friday nights to boot. Suprisingly few builders seem to be able to make them live.

If that's the case, then your builder needs to become a sponsor on here, and pretty much put all the other tranny sponsor's out of business, because if he can put them together and have them stay together, he's doing something that none of the sponsors on here can do.

Sounds like the trick is that he goes over it every season, and since the clutches doesnt **** the bed, you dont get burnt oatmeal for fluid. The ave person either A) doesnt want to the pull the trans every season, B) Doesnt have the knowledge to fix it, and C) prob cant afford the $$$ for a rebuild which for most shops is going to be at lest 1200.00$
