Unhappy 402 LS2 Dyno. Only 460rwhp??

Hey guys. The motor is in a Mazda RX7 and the numbers seem ridiculously low, unless I'm wrong. It's about 460rwhp/430rwtq with 23 degrees of timing. Here's my setup:

TSP LS2 402 Forged Stroker ~11.3:1 Compression
Trickflow 220cc Cast Heads
Texas Speed LS7S Cam 242/250 Duration .614/.614 Lift on 114 LSA
Spindmonster modded and Ported FAST 92/92
JTR 1.75" Long Tube Headers
3" to 3.5" Y-Pipe
3.5" Custom Exhaust with Moroso Spiral Muffler

The car is still at the shop and I told them to do a compression check and to check the plugs.. Is there anything else I should have them check?

was the cam installed correctly? Tell them to check all the grounds too. When I was at the dyno with my car one of the grounds on the back of the driver side head was lose and the car was breaking up on the dyno. We tightened the ground and I gained 50 hp lol.

Post up a graph if you can. Are you running Harland Sharp rockers by chance? If so, that will be a lot of your problem.

Ok, I'm lost about the rockers. Am I missing something?

I think PatG means if your running harland sharps that they are heavy on the tip of the valve and will create valve float at high rpm. But if that were the case im pretty sure you guys would see that in your dyno sheet.

I did have an issue with the grounds earlier where my car wouldn't start after getting hot. I fixed that by adding grounds to both of the heads and cleaning up all my chassis and battery grounds.

Don't have access to the dyno graph yet

Using Yella Terra rockers

Well first i was confused about the cam but realized the trickflows have the ls1 style valves not the ls3 style (i was comparing it to mine). Like mentioned in your other thread the primaries on the JTR headers may hold you back from some horses, but it does sound like something else is up..

I had the same problem with my tsp 408 with 11.1 compression. They sent me the standard length pushrods when I needed the 7.35 pushrods so when the power climbed to 5800rpm it flat lined across the graph.

Hmm.. I should give them a call about that. I'm running 7.5" push rods

I'm still wondering about timing.. What's a safe number on pump gas and 11.3:1 compression?

You can safely run 28-30 degrees of timing on that compression ratio if the tune is right, the heads are done correctly (chamber efficiency) and you're accessible to good 93 octane gas. 23 degree's is far too conservative IMO. That's usually where I start, and then massage the timing tables from there till I find the max that the car will allow.

You need to post up a graph. You're basically asking people to guess your problem out of thin air. The old saying still holds true.........A picture is worth 1000 words.

Spoke to the tuner just now and he says 23 degrees of timing was the most power. He said at 25 the car actually lost like 8rwhp.

He sent me some cell phone pics of the graph, terrible quality, but its all I got right now.

The numbers on the graph are actually 460.0rwhp and 465.54rwtq at 12.9:1 AFR

I'm guessing your exhaust isn't helping much. While the 1 3/4 primaries are ok (bigger would help), the 3.5" single pipe is probably losing some power. A good 4" single or 3" duals would help too.

Also, what is the intake like in front of the manifold? MAF? What sort of manifold pressure are you seeing?

With those issues fixed up I wouldn't be surprised if you were closer to 490.

What fuel system does the car have and what is the injector duty cycle?

The car made 459rwhp on a stock cubed LS2 with an LS6 intake mani, 85mm tb, same headers, a 2.5" to 3" y-pipe to 3" single exit though a REALLY restrictive muffler.

I now have a FAST 92/92 combo, exhaust setup mentioned above and more cubes, yet same power.

Intake is an Airaid C6 Corvette LS2 CAI with 4" piping
