Default Decent #'s or tired LS1?

Took the car to a dyno day Saturday for the first time. Didn't really know what to expect since it seems bolt-on cars vary quite a bit.

On the last pull I hit 304/320...only mods are lid, home p&p throttle body and loudmouth-1. The #'s seem alright for a stockish LS1 with 146,xxx miles lol. It was about 54° around noon and the run was on a dynojet.

Doing a search I had found many members that hit 340-350 hp with the same mods I have plus LTs, ORY and tune. I'm kind of thinking it would be hard for me to hit that seeing what I did over the weekend.

Any thoughts on what I might see with the mods I don't have in question? I was thinking maybe 330...

Is that through an auto or a manual? If it's an auto i'd say that's about right, a little low if it's a manual.

I would say its low even with an auto. But all dynos are different so who knows.

I just put my car on the dyno last weekend at a local shop and got 350whp out of my H/C/I LS1. Needless to say, All dyno's are different. The time before that my car put down 430whp which is about where i should be , give or take. My buddies cam only car only put down 320ish & he should be in the 380-400 range with his cam and mods.

In other words, dont get caught up in the numbers so much. lol

Best thing to do it take it to the track and see what it does. Theres plenty of data on here that you can compare.

Its an auto with 3.23s ...EDIT-they also "locked" the converter in 3rd

Am I correct in remembering that its close to a 20% loss from the crank to the wheels?

...and yeah I know that its just a # and that all dynos don't tell the whole story. I wish there was a track closer than Cordova (about 3 hrs one way) because that is the real # to go by.

Bestlude, where those two pulls you mentioned at the same shop? That seems a big gap with the same mods.

And another quick Q.

Did the shop you guys go to let you pull up on the roller and do the pulls? I thought, from watching youtube pulls, that the shop employees would do the actual runs.

I had never done it before and their instructions before hand weren't the best lol.

I've been on probably a half dozen dynos in my life, and some of the times I was able to pull it up onto the rollers, but never do the actual run! Honestly, that would be extremely stupid and possibly dangerous IMO lol!

^^^ that's kind of what I was thinking.

For insurance reasons, if nothing else, I would've thought that's how it was done...but I have also seen a video on youtube from last year when they opened, that had a 350ci S-10 on nitrous blowing the engine intentionally...which in turn caught the engine bay on fire.

Thats the main reason I don't trust these guys doing a dyno tune on my car, doesn't seem to me the place takes themselves seriously.

18-20% loss is with a manual its more with an auto. Tune and LT's will wake it up and put you on par with the rest of the bolt on cars.

Your numbers sound right on too me. Most stock/lid catback only auto ls1's I've seen run about 295-305rwhp.

I can't believe they let you do the pull on the dyno, I've never heard of that before. Especially if you've never done a pull on one before. Very odd.

I know right!?! I was nervous as hell (didn't want to look like I was clueless lol). I watched a 72 Chevelle go first...and he was in the same boat as me, didn't realize he was the one sitting in the seat for the pulls.

Although I do have to say, it was kinda cool. I had never ran the car to the speeds it hit on the dyno. I was a little amped, to say the least, when I pulled off the lift.

Some shops let you do the dyno pull..and you get to sign a nice dotted line waiving any claims for damage lol.But you wouldve signed a waiver regardless what dyno you go to.

My main question here is..if you saw a video of them previously blowing up engines..intentionally?...you wont catch me pulling my car anywhere close to their door.. to even consider trusting them to strap it on the rollers. But atleast you had fun doing a dyno pull and I think your numbers are in line. Now its time to mod up

Ok, I read your first post wrong and I thought you said you already had full exhaust. Although when my car was just lid+cb it did 316 on one dynojet and 320 on another dynojet I can consider yours to be good.
