well i retired my original block last year and had my spare block put into action. the first shop i took it to laughed at me when i told them i need my lt1 which makes about 950hp on the bottle rebuilt. then after 4 months and the block not even being touched, i knew it was time for me to get my **** the fawk out of Champion racing engines, in michigan. one lie after another after another...... a little honesty goes a long way in my book.
anyhow fast forward. I bring all of my **** to Holbrook Racing Engines in Livonia, Mi. they had everything completed in quick fashion.
this is the first time my junk has ever seen a engine dyno. we started with shell 91 v power pump gas. after some warm up, a valve lash, and fresh plugs, we began loading up the motor. first pull was to 5k, made 484hp, she was lean, so we made some adjustments, and pulled it to 5k again, picked up 10 more and she was now happy. only 27 deg. in the motor at this time. necxt pull was to 6k and we were up to 598hp, not too shabby.
long story short, we bumped the timing up from 27 to 35 degrees and ended up at 692hp and 551 tq.
we then threw in some VP 109 unleaded fuel. well, without a single adjustment it jumped to 715, added 1 degree and went to 721, added another degree and it went to 725, with 572 lb.ft of torque.
it is funny, i think the power this little 23 degree old school LT1 SBC surprised some of the guys at the shop.
now i made a few slight changes from the previous set up, in the endless quest for more power. not that the combo wasn't well thought out and made what i estimated at 670 - 675 fwhp on race gas. but i wanted more!!!
did a little bit of head work, added a little bit of compression (well at least i think), and camshaft.
at the end of the day i think it is up about 40 - 50 hp. the proof will of course be in the ET. but that is a couple of weeks away at this time.
...... and who says the LT1 is a piddly little motor.

afr227's hand ported. compression is somewhere between 11 and 12.
I will post up dyno sheets when i get a chance. I have scanned them i guess i need to put them in photobucket to link a pic... right?

Either that, or tinypic also works real well (tinypic doesn't require an account and you can upload directly).. Or at least it did. Last time I used tinypic I saw they had some ads and crap on there, so just look it over carefully first.

Joel,
compression isn't everything, lol! as mentioned earlier, alot of thought went into not only making her bullet proof, but also making power. kinda weird seeing someone else other than myself putting the motor through her paces, lol!
