As for you i would set your shift point at prob 6600 unless you have upgraded the rod bolts which is what most people do to spin them that high.
how can you compare an idle of a MS4 on a 111lsa to what possibly is an MS3 on a 114?

My Vette has an MS3 on a 113 and the idle at 900 sounds nothing like that. Its a lot less choppy.

Hmm well i've hearn an MS3 before in an SS and it sounded pretty close. Although im not for sure about LSA though. The car should still sound pretty close to that kind of idle. That lil bit of difference in LSA should not change the overlap so much that the car sounds like it has a 224 cam in it.

ms3 is NOT alil cam! its lift is over .600!
i have it in my car. and you CAN tell theres a cam in there. after reading that i think you may not have that cam in there.. mine is a on 113 lsa and it chops like crazy. theres also one on a 112. so you have either of the two. If there really is a ms3 in there. i dynoed 394rwhp with my ms3 with ls1 intake/ heads, and a4! my advice would be to pull cam, and find out what really is in there. not go off of what somebody is telling you. also another thing that could be eating power is motor is still new. since you say it has been freashly rebuilt. this ls1 engines like to run alil loose. thats why they still make great power with high miles!

hope you get everything worked out! good luck! and keep us posted!

i have the ms3 on a 113, and my boy has the ms4 on the 111. mine seems to chop more then his! but i think his idle is almot @ a grand. mine is @ about 800. IMO its kinda hard to tell the lsa by listening. i think the size of the cam has more to do with it.

Ya like i said an MS3 is going to make some noise. Bc mine idles b/t 900-1100 and thats what it sounds like. OFcourse i have dumped exhaust also soo it changes it a lil.

Hurry and post a sound clip and i can tell you if its the MS3 or not. Did you not get a cam card with your cam?

You guys are CRAZY if you think you can tell what kind of cam is in a car by listening to it idle, the chopiness IS ALL IN THE TUNE, i can make a small cam chop hard core, and can make a big cam sound very very tame, its all about how/who tuned it, not what cam is inside...

Well his car has been tuned, so ya you can have an idea of what size cam is in it. I dont care how good of a tuner you are you can't hide the size of a cam. Unless you raise the idle to like 1400.

Ya i know you can make a small cam sound choppy but once its tuned you can tell that its just a lil cam.

exactly!

we prolly cant tell what cam it is precisely! but we can defenatly have an idea! i have a fare share of different cams! and they all have a distint chop to them.

and the only way to make a big cam more tame is RAISING the idle. and it would still chop pretty good...

ok fellas. here it is. the first clip is a cold start and idle. then i drove around a couple miles, put some fuel injector cleaner in and filled the tank up and drove around another 10 miles, then came back. so here we go.

The statement i bolded is COMPLETLY untrue, no you cannot take a big cam and completely hide it, but they can be made to run very smooth when tuned correctly, and yes they can do it at 900 RPM.

Ill see if i have a vid of my car when i get home, MS3 on a 112, nobody ever belives that i have a cam that large, proper tuning really can tame them down
