Default Fox body guys

Just wondering about my friends set up, and what he would be putting down, about. 92 GT, 5 speed, ect.

Somewhat built t5
4" aluminum ds
gears going in at some point
gt40 heads
TFS "stage 1" cam
shorties
TFS intake upper and lower
weight reduction (all accessories in engine bay pretty much...stock interior)

When he got the car, it had a Novi 1000 on it, but ran like ****, so he took it off, and is now just fixing his little timing issues and whatnot. Above 4k, it starts to backfire a bit, and runs rough...once it is running 100%, what do you think it will do, 1/4 times, and numbers? What about with the novi, if he got it tuned nicely?

IDK...I'm not too familar with foxes to be hoenst. Pending boost on that novi 1000, I'd say in the 275 rwhp range.

That is it? I think he was at 12 psi. I was thinking his H/C kit....of course I have no idea wtf a "Stage 1" cam is...would be around 250-275. Are foxes THAT weak, untill better heads/cam/compression and other things come into play? Where is stopsign...lol.

Foxes are pretty weak to be honest...Yes they can and will be fast if you modify them i.e. bored stroked yada yada. For example there is a fox near my town that is H/C/I gears no idea on #'s but he thought he was hot stuff and my bro's stock LT1 Trans Am beat him. He recently added a 100 shot to it and wants a piece of the SS. Honestly I still think I can take him. Then there is another Fox near me that is a 306 H/C/I with a 125 wet kit and with dr's he ran a 7.55 in the 1/8. I know that may not be that fast to most of you guys but around my town that is hauling. He wants a rematch against me in the 306 fox against my SS. cause I tied his m5 procharged gt ~400whp (he said) from a roll.

He wasn't near 400 hp if you hung with him.....400 hp in a car that weighs, what, 2800 lbs? 3100 at the most? That thing would fly, so BS on his numbers. I guess it is the built foxes to watch out for...basic builds just don't cut it.

A trick flow stage I cam is .499/.510 221/223 @ 112 lsa (I have one) and it's a decent blower cam.

His mods n/a should be around 265-270rwhp I'd guess. With the blower on 12psi, I'd place him around 400rwhp.

In a light foxbody I'd say he should be booking it. Foxes are usually no joke, as you can get them to scream for next to free with a good tuneup. My brothers old fox had nothing but shorties and an h-pipe with a little timing advance, and was trapping 98mph at our crappy track. Everything else was stock, down to the filter. I'm not saying that's the fastest thing ever; but it's healthy. A mild heads cam (the gt40s can be like 3 different styles, some weak, some 'ok') should run an ls1 without too much an issue I would think. A good h/c/i car with 300rwhp in an lx that's about 1000lbs less than an ls1..well, you get the idea.

I'll say his et will greatly depend on slicks, but it should be going around 104-5 (n/a) I'd guess.

I told him to put his set up in his lx he has also...and get a nice stall for his AOD (not sure how the fox's trans are, keep the stocker, or upgrade), since the weight will be nice, and his suspension is set up for road racing. Anyway...that isn't too bad. I believe he also has 1.7 rockers, forgot to mention that. He took the blower off due to shitty tune, and car running like ***. Its better now, just needs to work on the timing, like I said. 98 is pretty fast for those minimal of mods. Our track, that would be like...93 or 94 maybe. I think it would be a good run for me, if my car was running right. What are the gt40 heads? I want to say my friend's are gt40x or something to that effect. Sound right?

275 is about right..300 max The gt40 heads are iron from the explorer or aluminum from Ford Racing. He should put the blower back on and get a professional tune. Sounds like it was running like crap because it was untuned. With the blower he could make it into the 11s.

It was untuned, and he doesn't have enough money for a full, good tune (not to mention, no places here that tune). So he is going to sell it, and get his timing right on his N/A set up. He wants to get it faster N/A anyway...he got the car already boosted for 5k, so it wasn't too bad.

That fox isnt the supercharged car I raced. Yeah that fox with the wet kit does book it but I haven't raced him yet. The m5 procharged gt wasn't the fox it was a 04 GT. He did seem sure that the GT had 400whp. I don't know when he found out all my car had he called BS but I popped the hood and he saw nothing he just stood there and scratched his head his face was priceless "he was probably thinking damn LS1"

Lol....that is what my friend was saying in the middle of the header install. Found out more about the car. Heads and lower intake are both ported. I'm thinking he might be around 300 now. I can't wait till our cars are running the way they should be.....

The GT40 heads are very small but with boost they aren't that big of a deal. If I had to guess with a good tune he will be around 350-370rwhp. With 8psi of boost I made 480rwhp out of my 5.0 but that was with a few ancient chinese secrets and the only fuel it would run on was the blood of babies from GM owners.

12.7@112mph on street tires given your friend is an average driver. With slicks I'd guess 12.2 will be the best he will get. I don't think this setup will be that powerful, however it could suprise you. With setups like this the little things are what will make the car do very well or just be average.

So N/A, that cam is holding him back? We are thinking with his 1.7 rockers, that the added lift will help him out, but I told him the proven E303 cam could help him out. What do you think?

I think any of those OTS cams are a waste. N/A his car would be lucky to see 270rwhp.

My 302 should make around 440rwhp N/A give or take some either way. Its all in how you setup the combination and how high you are willing to rev the motor. But if his options are a 351 based motor or a 302 based motor he definately should build the 351. The blocks are MUCH stronger and they will make alot more torque.

IMO the best thing he could do is research research research on the parts he uses. Sounds like he is just throwing stuff at it. BTW I hate the design of Trickflow upper intakes except for the box. He should have went with a Edelbrock RPM II intake, AFR/TFS heads, and a custom cam. It would feel like a different motor over what he has now.

Well that is what he wants to do...just like I want a 6.0 L iron block, and build a huge cammed, huge shot 408. But for his current 302, should he looking into better heads, like TFS or AFR, larger cam, more compression with the heads (gaskets or milling), and of course, open up his exhaust more?

Well if he is planning to go 351 later if I were him I'd be keeping that in mind. Buying lontube headers for his 302 would be money wasted since he will have to get new headers later. How long is he gonna have the 302 before he starts on the 351?

I couldn't tell you that much. Everything resolves around $$$$$$, and right now, that is tight for some of us, at this age. I'm doing a budget build, and it is still eating away at my money....not my savings and whatnot, I'm not living beyond my means, but it is still a pain. He doesn't make too much either, so idk how long he will keep the 302. If he does keep it for a while, the things like I listed? larger cam, more compression with new heads, LTs, ect?
