Default Racing an LT1, need your opinion!

Hello, this upcoming friday is opening test and tune night at the local track. I got asked to run my car against a somewhat built LT1 car..need your opinion! do you think i can take him? I am going to run him reguardless

Heres the rundown:

1997 Camaro SS
Stock bottom end w 70,000 miles
Auto trans with stock converter
2.73 rear gears (i think)
Comp cam (around .570 lift)
Roller Rockers
MSD ignition replacing optispark
Ported and Polished heads
Edelbrock throttle body, may have ported intake manifold as well.
K&N FIPK
Pacesetter Longtubes, ORY, E-cutout, SLP TOTL
Car is UNTUNED and is runs rich! Will be on 275/40 street tires

MY Car: 1999 Trans AM WS6
Stock engine, 150,000 miles
SLP lid, K&N filter, SLP bellows
Ported throttle body and bumpstop mod
Diablosport predator tuned
3.23 Gears
Auto trans w/ stock converter
!EGR, !Air, !PCV, Throttle body bypass
275/40 street tires

I think it will be a close race, depending on who can get their car out of the hole. I know my car will blow the tires off on the street, 1st and 2nd gear lol.
Any input is appreciated.

Don't know much about the LT1s and how much they react to a cam, but I'm pretty confident that this race is yours.

1) He has a cam and is untuned..
2) Smaller gears than you in the rear
3) You have an LS1, he has an LT1
4) You have a tune.... somewhat

Dont know much about the lt1's

but hes got
Heads cam intake full exhaust over you...

i think stock form they have 270 rwhp?? i think its safe to say hes meeting your hp or maybe even more... but you have slight advantage with gear..

im sure someone will chime in with some hard facts!

Bench racing for the win!

stock we usually only pull like 240 at the wheels with a auto. him having that big of a lift cam and it not being tuned will not make his car very happy. i know mine ran like *** like that. and if he does have 2.73's you should be able to take him because i was only getting 2.2/2.3 60' foot times

Looks like the guy with the LT1 has done some ***-backwards mods. All that work to the motor and no converter, no gears, no tune. Does it run good?

Thanks for the input guys. His car does need a tune pretty bad, but it is streetable and runs decent. It acts like it wants to die sometimes, but it never does. It also blows black smoke out when you rev it up.

I'd put my money on you unless you seriously screw up your launch

If his car was running good and had some gears, he would easily beat you. It'll be a very close race just because his setup looks halfway done.

I would have no problem hanging with you with a lot less done..

Sorry, But I'm going to disagree. I owned a LT1 for a year while owning my LS1 I still have and The LT1 was a dog compared to my 98.

The stock stall and 2.73's are really shooting him in the foot cause it will take longer for his car to get to the powerband. With a good launch you will take him.

I thought all A4 SS and WS6's came with 3.23 gears from the factory so if its a real SS i'm almost positive that it has 3.23's and even though he's missing one of the best mods for an A4 which is a stall I think it depends on how bad his tune is off becuase with his mods he should easily beat you IMO I know that LS1's are alot stronger in stock form but with the mods he has I don't think a near stock LS1 should win but because he's untuned and lacks a stall its probably going to be a close race.

If he does have 3.23's then I'd probably put my money on the LT1 even with the stock converter. If he has 2.73's then he might be in trouble (but there are peole hitting 10's with 2.73's so...) Either way, good luck. Is this a friendly grudge match with a friend or a race with a **** talker?

Thanks for the input. Im not positive on the gears, so they could possibly be 3.23's. Its a friendly grudge race, no **** talkers lol.

Anything you can do to give you an advantage will help. Some drag radials would give you a huge advantage.

Yea i would really like to borrow my neighbors BFG Drag Radials but i guess i will just run him the way it is, street tire to street tire. The previous owner of the SS said he ran it a few times and went mid-low 13's. Who knows how accurate that is, or what kind of 60ft he got though.
