Default Mazdaspeed 3 ??

Alright, a friend of a friend of a boyfriend told him his car is pushing 400 HP with a bigger turbo swap and some bolt ons in his mazdaspeed 3. Is this possible? He says he crapped on a Camaro SS before. I don't know much about these cars. Anyone wanna chime in? Can 400 be obtailed like that and if not what has to be done? I was thinking of racing him and if its a turbo wondering if i can take him from a dig possibly? Just thinking.. if its really 400 hp probably not

It's more than possible with a turbo swap.

Yup, stock turbo with bolt ons and some tuning are well into the 300s. Should be quick from a roll.

They are pretty much a five-door skittle. They are high 13's @ 100 or so bone stock and can be pretty quick with relatively little mods. A local had one when they first came out and it impressed me. I don't know what to say about a big turbo MS3, but the local with just an intake, exhaust, and a little more boost went 13.4 @106.

Sort of, Almost 300hp stock, close ratio 6 speed will do that. Plus high compression, direct injection and a fairly small turbo and you can kiss turbo lag goodbye.

Even so, they have almost 10:1 compression plus direct injection so it won't be huge lag. That was one of the real strong points to my Speed6 (Same engine) I was always in the powerband no matter what rpm I was at or what gear I was in pretty much. Anything over 1700/1800 rpms and you're good to go.

I say run him either way, if you only have a couple bolt ons I think he'll walk you fairly handily from a higher roll, from a dig you should rip him up easy.

ah well my mods in my sig, very minor stuff. hopefully headers and a little suspension are in my future. Yeah i'd give him a roll if he gives me a dig

Should be a good race IMO. Speed3's have a tendency of flying under the radar. There's only one here in town and I foresee that one remaining bone stock...

If its truly 400hp I wouldnt under estimate it. I raced a stock one at the track a week after I bought my car and it ran like mid 14s.

Because they weigh nothing, like a skittle. I think they weigh 3000-3100lbs, I was really surprised when I found this out because it looks like it would weigh more.

If you want a comparison, my friend has a bolt-on Mazdaspeed 3 it put down 260hp, 280tq and I only beat him by about 2-2.5 cars from a roll. I saw if he has anywhere near 400whp and can put the power down you'll get beat, by a good amount. Even if you do a dig he might have trouble off the line but if you give him time he'll definately close the gap quick with that power to weight ratio.

there is only one ms3 that broke 400 to the wheels and its unofficial the average for those cars is about 350-360 heavily modded. trust me i own one.

Even with a swapped turbo?
I drove one on Saturday and I was honestly impressed. Rolled out pretty well for a FWD turbo car.

the problem for building power in the mazdas isnt the turbo its the fuel injectors and the ecu. since it is direct injection and the injectors are high pressure the software to run them efficiently and correctly hasnt been mastered yet the stock fuel system leans out at the 400whp mark and thats when engines have started popping.
