Default '98 SS vs. '04 Z06, who wins?

Alright guys, I've got a friend that has a COMPLETELY stock '04 Z06 and I was wondering what you guys think the outcome would be. He doesn't think my car would hang, but I think it'd be closer than he thinks. My mods are in the sig. Lemme know what you guys think the outcome would be. From a dig and a roll.

According to that dyno, yes. But dyno numbers are guesstimates as all of them will read different even if the cars are exactly the same. I haven't been able to get to the track, but before the dyno tune (which I picked up about 40 HP from) I ran a 13.3 at 108 with a 2.2 60'. I know those numbers are a little high...

But when you compare it to a "cam only" car I find it to be about even. Cams, with no supporting mods, just the cam will generally pick up about what? 50 HP, give or take? With that said, how much would full exhaust, intake, and dyno tune get you? About 50 HP or so, right? So when a person says they have a cam only they're choking it by having stock manifolds and what not that are holding the cam back.

This thread is to see who would win the race, not to debate my dyno numbers...I know they're about 20 HP high compared to other cars with the same mods.

Even stock those C5 Z's are pretty impressive averaging mid to low 12's @ 115-117 in the quarter. With that said he'll probably get you by a couple tenths in the 1/4 if he can drive. From a roll he'll eat you alive. lol

He's decent at shifting but he has trouble keeping traction.

Anymore input guys?

he would have to be a pretty terrible driver to lose from dig, and the worst driver ever to lose from a roll IMO

was just pointing it out because I wouldn't even bother posting those numbers anywhere

cam only on this site means no heads, it assumes all supporting mods for the cam

With that said, what would be the length difference? A couple cars from a dig?

2-3 cars from a dig. A whole bus from a roll.

Those C5 Z's can be quick as fawk in stock trim. My dads wen't consistant 12.1-12.2x's @ 117 (bone-stock down to the tire) back in 2002.

Probably a 40 roll and then like a 50 or so. This won't happen until next summer since both cars are put away for the winter.

For a stock stall my car pulls pretty strong from a roll. Not saying it pulls stronger than the Z06, just stating how mine does. So we'll see what happens next summer possibly.

Are you running any kind of drag radial or slick?

If yes then you have a chance from a dig, but it could still go badly for you.

From a roll I'd put my money with the Z06 all day.

Of course, driving plays a huge part in any race, so go out there and suprise us!

Wed both be on street tires unless I get some DR's before then, but doubt it. I have brand new KDW's, haven't really taken off hard from a dead stop with them so idk how badly they'd spin.

Spring for some drag radials, get some practice in launching the car, and run him from a dig. Give yourself a best case scenerio

I doubt I'll get DR's. I don't get to the track enough to justify spending $400+ on tires to win a race against a friend. Lol. I've got other stuff I'd rather spend that money on. I'm feeling heads, cam, stall in the next 2 years or so. Depends though, I should probably pay off school before I mod the SS too heavily. Lol.

Drag radials are for more than just getting good times at the track. They make the car more fun to drive since you get much better traction and can actually use the extra power. A set of Nittos lasts a while too. My brother for 20k miles out of his, including a couple days at the drag strip.

Heads, cam, and expecially a stall are not going to be much fun if you're just blowing the tires off everywhere, unless you just plan on punching it on the highway.

Paying off bills first is always a good plan too

When I was bone stock I raced a few of my friends LS1 Fbodies (I/H/E like yours) and beat them by a large margin from a 20, 40, and 60 roll. I raced my friends cam only M6 TA and beat him by a car when he was on motor. It was a different story with him on the bottle though.

With your mods I would say you can possibly take him from a dig if you're on drag radials and he's on street tires and you are a better driver. You will not win from a roll.

Stock stalled auto with bolts ons vs Z06 M6........*** rape from a roll. It would take H/C for you to trap 115-117 in an auto. He is lighter, makes more power, and is more aerodynamic. Plus his car will shine from a roll and a dig with you both being on street tires. Better go pick on someone your own size

Gone low 12s in all C5 Z06s I have driven sans 01s. An 04 is faster than the older ones(better fuel, carbon fiber hood blah blah). He will get you up top if he can drive. They are fast...

It wont be a race once you get up there in speed as he will continue pulling on out while the aero gains will help more and more for him.

I'd say from a dig with you pulling like... a 1.9 60ft on the street he will still get you by at least a car in a 1/4 mile street race so long as he can at least drive... He may start out spinning, but the weight difference will help him pick up speed fast.
