Default what will it make! mild 6.0

Going to the dyno this friday on my build. I have a guess what i think it will make, but want to hear what you guys think.

Specs. 2005 LQ4 6.0. Stock short block. 862 heads to bump compression to 10.5:1. Cam 220/228 @50 .600/,600 lift 109+4. on stock 1.7 rockers. Camaro LT headers, 4" intake tube through stock truck intake.

Put through a stock 2000 camaro T56 to an 8.5 10 bolt with 4.10 gears. (not that the gear matters)

so, any thoughts on what i can expect to the tire?

323hp/336 Tq on a Dyno Dynamics dyno. 74*, 78%rh.

lower than i had hoped for, but in the end its just a number. Car runs great and is a blast to drive so i am happy. Gonna see how quick it is down the strip to be the real measuring stick of it, but even then the 6 speed and i lack the driver mod for drag racing

I'm thinking those heads and perhaps the throttle body are limiting the top end horsepower. The torque number is decent and I'm sure it's there early. Be nice to see the graph. I'm sure it's fun to drive!

A set of milled 243/799 heads, LS6 intake(OEM or Dorman), an 90mm+/-TB will wake up that engine.

voila

agree on heads holding it back a bit. I want to swap to a TBSS instake as it will help out the top end a bit and not cost me much on the low end and is a larger TB as well.

For my purposes however, those mods will be a while down the road. Happy with it as it is for the time being, but as with all things i am sure i will want more power later.

How about an LS370 with 12.4:1 compression, 236/242 cam, 112+4 LSA, .598/.583 lift, L92 heads, LS3 intake with NW 92, TSP 1-7/8 headers through a T56 and a 10 bolt with 4.10 gears?

Over 300 ft lbs from the beginning of the pull right through. That would drive great. You've got room to grow if you want more too.
What car is this in? Weight?

Hey there, Just a friendly heads up James Short is a good tuner but his dyno reads WAY low compared to everyone elses. He tuned my old 6.0 which showed similar numbers as yours and it ran 11.15 in the 1/4. Later on I had it dynoed at other shops and it showed rwhp closer to 400.

i had read that about Dyno Dynamics being the heartbreakers of the dyno world.

Despite the "low" numbers I am very happy with how it runs. Once I get a chance I will take it down the track to get a better idea of what kinda power it has. Hoping for a sub 13 second car, Ideally want Mid 12's but would be happy with anything under 13. But a lot of that will be me, as I have never raced a Stick shift before so i know it leaves a whole lot more room for error

I have a similar setup. But im lq9 and my cam has more duration but less lift and 109 lsa. I dont have dyno numbers but it feels like over 400hp to the wheels lol. The guy who built it is estimating between 400-450. Havent gotten any races yet but feels incredibly strong and im sure my tq curve looks like yours. Keep me updated on any races or dyno pulls you make

Looks like a nice combo.

On my LQ4, I did feel a gain when I went from the truck intake/stock TB to a TBSS Intake and 92mm TB (WARR brand).

From the many various dyno runs that Richard Holdener has been putting on youtube, you can see a lot of different heads on a 6.0. (He uses both LQ4 and LY6s, but from a bottom end standpoint, they are functionally the same thing). His runs showed the 5.3 heads being the best of the stock heads on the low compression LQ4s, iirc.

My suggestion, if you get to the point that you want to do anything more with heads, I'd get the 5.3 heads cnc'd with larger valves. Around me, that's $1000 to do, which isn't too bad overall.

I would guess with your setup, based on all of the similar combos that I have researched, that you are probably 440-460HP at the crank. Same engine with more head flow, ~8 more degrees duration, and a better intake is usually ~520ish.

Next step is Ported heads and intake for sure. Probably more cam as well. Ideally, thinking of a stroker build currently. the power has gotten pretty mundane, and i just rebuilt the trans to take more so why not make more. might do heads and intake this winter, then next winter build a full stroker for the car.

Custom Cam Motion cam.

I did run it once at the drag strip. 13.7 @ 102. I'm sure it can be improved some as I am a novice drag racer, but definitely does not have 12's in it with the current motor setup.

Underpowered ive been following your build and research for a while now, been planning something very similar engine wise for my s10 with a stock lq4 in it currently.

plan was 5.3 heads and cam in the neighborhood of 216-224ish. Mainly focused on between tsp low lift stage 3 or 4 216/220 .550 or 222/226 .550. Truck is a 5 speed daily driver 27” tire with 3.23s. Would like to keep truck intake and shorty headers as space has always been a major issue id ive now got all the bugs worked out. Dont want a pig down low and dont want to change valve springs frequently. Been hoping to see around 400 whp on a dynojet but your results have me concerned i may fall far short... will stay tuned to see your future progression.
