Default LS1 bhp guestimate

I have a LS1 shortblock, ls2 cam and 799 heads laying around. So everything is free for me but gaskets. Yes i habe gen 4 front cover and blue springs. Literally only need gaskets. With ls6 intake I'm guessing should be 390-395bhp without headers.

Has anyone throw this combo together? My bolt on ls6 top end ls1 on my t56 98 ws6 made 390whp on conservative tune. Ls6 cam is only another 10whp or so over ls2 cam. So figuring thru auto trans. This combo should be good for 365-370whp...? Maybe another 10whp with dorman ls2 intake and matching tb?

Thx in advance guys.

Sounds like a stock LS2 with 30 less CID.

I'd expect HP #s in line with that assessment.

If it's gonna be with an auto, and with LS6 intake about 340-350 to the tires, possibly less

Headers and exhaust would push that number up quite a bit

I was thinking almost the same 350/360. Exhaust be good here...

You would basically have an 01 z06 motor (01 z06 & ls2 cams are near identical). The 01 z06 was rated at 385hp but the cam wasn't the only difference in 2002. 01s had 4 catalytic converters, they did away with 2 in 02. So yeah 395 flywheel would be a good guess with a stock tune and manifolds.

02-04 z06 dyno 350-360 356÷.88=405
01 z06 are around 330-340 338÷.88=385
assuming a 4l60e, stock converter and a 7.5 10 bolt 330-340rwhp 335.75÷.85=395.

Agree. Initially I wrote 330, and then changed it to keep from too much butthurt

I understand this is ment to be a cheap/ budget build. But why not throw a cheap summit cam/ beehives and a set ove speed eng headers on it for a 50+ gain.

1.. I have other motors I'm dumping $ into. This is an extreme throwing free parts on a motor and only spending money on gaskets.

2.. I love beating poopstangs and telling them that that only aftermarket parts are my bolt ons. In fact as an update.. Simce having to do a front cam set up anyways... I forgot I have an ls7 cam buried behind some gen 1 sbc top notch top end parts. Which that would give an additional 25-30hp over the ls2 cam from a write up done using a lm7 shortblock as the mule with every ls factory cam.

My donor car is my 85 z. Use to be a 581bhp 383 beast good for constant 10.9X passes. Motor went long ago thanks to solid cam set up and a shitty engine builder. I only play with lsx engines now. I just want the car on the road ago. I love my turd gen! 😆
as long as i still am.good for mid 11s.. I'm happy!
When I say I have other motors I'm building...
LQ4 for my 04 Tahoe. Getting ls2 head i have laying around with tbss intake and gold blade tb with x link. Its the fam-mobile. So i snagged a scoggin d's ls6 power max cam. Just gotta get a 2200 stall. Which can snagged rebuilt ones off ebay that they make it around 2200 to 2400 for about $130 shipped.

I have an ls2 that i plan to put some 821 heads on and going in my 98 ws6.

I HAD a 2nd LQ4 was originally going in the 85 z... But sold for more funds and since have the ls1... Thats going in on a budget so i can get ls6 or another tbss intake. And for ls2 build, would like to find a used FAST 102 intake.

So there's always a reason for what I do. I have been modding lsx engines and cars/trucks since 04. So like the Farmers Insurance commercial says.. I say, " I know a thing or 2 bc I've seen a thing or 2 " 😆

Yeah, and I just added a 86 vette into my car collection that needs a motor. But for $600 and the dash and column isn't crap, was well worth $600 alone. Rest interior is decent for the age also. I'm gonna be doing a 1 pc rear main roller 350 with zz4 cam or lt1 hot cam, ported 97-99 vortec heads or aluminum 89± L98 heads. I have a trade in progress for a 89 Vette L98 long block... i just never have the time to spend more than an hour here or there on each project car/motor... FML
