Default HELP!!! Philly area, I need help removing a pilot bearing.

I cant get the pilot bearing out of the crank. I have tried the grease trick, a pilot bearing puller, and a blind hole puller. I have soaked the area with PB plaster and nothing, just tired arms.

Does anyone have something better I can use? I will pay you for renting the tool and your time. Beers on me if you can help, the car is on stands in my tiny garage.

I have always used a pilot bearing puller or a slide hammer with a small hook on it. Never use the grease method on the lsx cranks. They have a metal plug in the back of the crank that will get knocked into the oil pan if you hammer in on it.

Whats behind the bearing besides the open space? Is there a lip that stop it, or can I try pushing it in with a hammer / bolt then try the slide puller.

My pilot bearing was stuck in there good. I used a dremel to carefully cut into it and weaken it. Then I cracked it with a hammer and chisel and it came right out.

I found this picture of a real pilot bearing puller, not sure where to get it though:

Like highflyin said, bad idea with the grease method. You should replace the oil seal plug after you get the bearing out.

I bought a small puller from harbor freight, ground down two of the 3 prongs to fit in the hole, and using just those two I was able to get it out. Wrecked the bearing in the process but it worked.

If all else fails you can weld a bolt to the stock metal bearing and use the threads to pull it out by placing a large socket over the bolt and installing a nut and washer to tighten and pull the bearing out.

No, I used the ball shaped metal grinding bit. Just be careful not to hurt your crankshaft.
