Why do we need 400hp cars?
Why do we need hamburgers?
Who's to say what one does and/or does not need?

In our current society, you need a roof over your head, you have to pay taxes (if you want to stay out of jail, provided you make enough money and are required to file), you need some form of transportation (or live close enough to a place of employment you could walk).
Sure...society has changed, sure the need for firearms changes, but things remain constant:
The second ammendment is just that, an ammendment that garuntees us a right.
Use of arms for self defense, defense of the community (think Katrina), defense of the country (think against an attack from a foriegn agressor with a land attack) and defense from the country (those who want total control over the citizens).
The american way: Guns are as American as Apple pie.

sadly, i dont think the term "..as American as a Chinese fortune cookie" has the same ring to it.
in anycase... having never shot a .50 cal rifle before... i want to.
im not "into" guns or anything... but ive shot some bigger rounds before, and it was fun... this has to be one hell of a fun gun to shoot.
anyone in SC have one i can shoot? ive got $3 for a bullet.

im far from a political person, but by definition, isnt a liberal, one who believes in an individuals rights?
going by that general definition, wouldnt it be a "gun control" clause be anti-liberal?

It's an oxymoron.

You guys are missing the point and most certainly misconstruing what I said.
Like Mr. B said, pick your battles. There is no practical need for .50 BMG firing weapons. Novelty is the only reason, which I don't agree with. A gun is a tool.
Not as much and I know full well what the second amendment is for.
Timmy, I know how much fun they are. Like I said I've fired BMG weapons. Hell I fired a Mk 19, and it was stupid fun. Doesn't mean I think the average citizen should own one.
Who here thinks convicted violent felons should legally be able to own hand guns?

Bullshit...you don't pick battles, you fight all of them. That's the problem in this country, we have to be all compromising when there is really nothing to compromise over.
It is a PROVEN HISTORICAL FACT, that gun control is piecemeal (not all at once). Ask the Australians that would have said 5 years ago...ok, as long as you don't take away our target rifles.
Even you know as an ex-mil man there are more powerful loads than a 671 grained .50 BMG round. There are pleanty of grizzly killer .458 loads. Additionally, Barret has their good old .499, what's NJ going to do next...ban that?
