Default GTO...IRS...Slicks!!

Well, I went up early in the morning before the gate opened on Saturday. Previous to today my PB was 12.52 @ 114mph with a 1.86 short time back on June 30th.

My new times and PB's are as follows in the pictures of the time slips. The changes I made from June include a used Spec 3 clutch (15K miles plus from my Trans Am) and new slave cylinder, new Billet Pro shifter (see my other thread), new longer ARP wheel studs for strength and safety and I changed the Procharger oil.. LoL

I am car #700...

First and Second passes:

Third and Fourth Passes, notice my second pass and 3rd pass are six minutes apart:

Fifth and Sixth passes:

So on my 5th run of the day I made two new Personal Bests 1.64 short time and 12.095 E.T! My MPH is sucking bad at 114 and I really need to figure out why!! I should be trapping over 120 every time. What gives? Anyhow, my PB was against a C5 ZO6, Blue with the silver stripes, I believe it to be a H/C? car that Don recently tuned/dynoed in the passed few months?? (I saw it at Dez on the rollers).
Without a doubt, a little more seat time, some cooler air and I'll be consistant 11's! Oh, by the way I think the scale is inaccurate at the track because this time my race weight was 3826.. last time it was 3926 and the car should weigh in at over 4050lbs. I'll will try to get it weighed this week, I just have to bolt the slicks back on to get my "race weight". And with that I mean EVERYTHING is in the car, even a 1/4 quart of transmission fluid (slid under the seat apparently from the clutch install two weeks ago), one quart of motor oil, spare tire, tools, amongst other things!! Ha Ha Ha
Oh yeah, Drove the car to and from the track too... IRS is fine!!

Thanks man. Not bad for only 10 passes this year with an entirely new set-up (200+rwhp) and only a best of 2.03 60' prior to this season!! Also, only 25 passes total with the car since I bought it in March of 2005!

Heat the Nitto's up well and be very careful with wheel hop... that's the stuff that will ruin your day at the dragway!!

Speedy, I saw the last 2 passes you made late in the day after it cooled down a bit. Your car ran well. Also saw the blue Zo6 car run down a few times and believe his best pass was a 12.1. That Zo6 was trailered in, and when I first looked at it in the pits, thought he'd be deep into the 11's... Again, nice job Speedy. WJ

Thanks WJ. I had a really fun day. Learned how to launch a hell of a lot better than previously and got the seat time I was looking for!

hmm i would have thought with those decent 60ft times you would be trapping in the 120s like you were thinking, maybe your getting belt slippage, when was the car on the dyno last?

Car was on the dyno only May 8th, making 531rwhp/440rwtq. 10-12psi of boost, 20* timing at WOT and 11.5:1 AFR

I should be trapping 120+ so I don't get it... Is it really being choked with the stock cat-back, is the blower getting enough air in the inner fender apron I don't know. I am looking for suggestions. So far with those in minda I am planning a Magnaflow cat-back or possibly a custom SS 3" cat-back and a under bumper air scoop to get rammed air up to the filter at speed instead of just sucking in ambient (probably hot air)!

Edit: no belt slippage that can be detected. There's no abnormal amounts of belt dust anywhere....

Looking at the slips your MPH is low at the 1/8 too. Based on the 1/8mph your 1/4 mph is what I would expect. So whatever is going wrong it's happening during the 1/8. You got a decent 60" so maybe if it's not the 1-2,2-3, then it could be a belt slip or something. It's probably not the clutch, otherwsie it would probably hurt your top end more.

Any video? how does the car pull in 2nd, 3rd? You should be trapping closer to 95mph in the 1/8. Maybe a little less in the heat but easily over 90.

Hey Speedy , I was standing behind the burnout area when you ran your 12.43 , and I think I heard a loud bang from your car upon the launch . I looked for you , but I thought I saw you headed out , about noon . I left shortly after . Just a heads up , hope it was nothing .
Good luck with it , elevens are right around the corner !

Boost seems to be right where it is.. the 12.8 run I was watching the boost gauge climp 7-8-9 and then it went to zero.. so I let out of it immediately! Ended up just being the vacuum line on my vacuum manifold. So had I stayed in it, it would have climed to 11-12psi whereas I was shifting at 6400-6600!

Dan you are absolutely correct I have been hatin' on my 1/8th time and mph. I can't understand it. I mean I come out of the hole stronger than I ever have, slam second and continue on. I'm stumped. Maybe I am a little slow shifting 2nd but it doesn't seem like it in the car. The videos will help. I am waiting for my g/f to bring her camera cable over so I can upload them.. they will be up tonight or should be at least!

FRCJim- on that run for some odd reason I got wheel hop for the first time during a pass this season. I was getting in the water box in first, so I just used second for the rest of the day. The pop you heard could have been that but all is strong and going fine... regarding I made two more passes dropping my 60' each pass! Around that time, they said they were breaking for lunch so I went and got 4 gallons of gas and had lunch as well, then returned "heavier" and went faster!! Thanks man for looking for me and the heads up! It was most likely the wheel hop and my IRS saying "**** you too"! LoL

Also, I was ripping the gears hard. As you know, I just installed a brand new shifter that I was "breaking in" and well I pulled the **** up off the shaft breaking the seal of the adhesive. This never happened with the **** on the B&M shifter and it was "glued" the same way, so I know there was some muscle/speed behind my shifts! You can check out the shifter here:

not bad at all, but like you said for having an alky/meth, intercooled procharger on 12lbs id expect alot faster, though its still an awesome short time, i cant get better than a 1.77 on this damn stock clutch. something isnt right though with your setup thats for sure...good times either way at least your 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile times are where they should be in relation to one another, so you can rule out the driver mod

Thanks. I was wondering if you were on this board as well. The ET Streets kick *** man. Get a Spec 3 or 3+ in your car and you'll be hard hooking! Ha Ha I was hoping someone would say that about the driver mod, but the videos will hopefully tell a better story! I really need to go up with someone that can log my runs and have a better looksee at what's going on.

Don- if you see this, any interest with that??

Great 60' times, real, real impressive!

Now go find you missing 100hp, and get your MPH up to the mid-high 120's, and you times into the 10's!!!!!!

I am supposed to get my GTO back this week, so hopefully I'll be able to join you in your next trip to NED.

Well, I know the shifting last time was really bad.Slow shifting can kill 1/4 times.During the runs was the A/F monitered? During lunch C-16 should of been put in the tank.

Only other thought is false knock from the drivetrain. But I'm still pointing towards new racer
