I currently live in Michigan and I found out Friday that I will be losing my job in about 6 months. I am wondering which cities in Florida should I be looking at to move to? I am a Computer Technical Support Technician. I am looking to find a city with a strong economy, nice beaches, and lots of entertainment activities. Any ideas? Thanks

stay away from Southeast Florida! The Space Coast is nice, Daytona is Daytona, Jacksonville has some nice beachs and it's a big city. There is also Tampa area and Naples/Ft. Meyers area. But like mpe488 said stay away from Miami and the rest of South Florida it's just a huge money pit, you might be able to make some money down there but you'll lose it all in housing expenses! Plus it's way to overcrowded and it sucks.

Id say the orlando area your in the middle so you can go to either daytona or tampa. plus there is plenty of companies that could probably use a computer tech. Houseing is starting to go crazy around here to though but I think its starting to slow down some.

It all depends on what you want to spend on a house! I live and work in Palm Beach County, and I love it....but it has gotten ridiculously expensive in the last few years. I do think it fits what your looking for though.

i live in deltona, lived in daytona beach for about 10 years, i would actually recoomend deltona if your willing to put some miles on the car. real estate is climbing so if your buying good place, my property value has trippled in under 10 years. Also it has great position, in under an hour you can be on daytona beach(actually about 30 mins if you do the speed limit) and orlando(about 45 mins if you do a double nickle down I-4. Also there are about 4 malls you can get to in each cardinal direction in under 45 mins. Most night life is in orlando, as a web designer i recommend if you are wanting a a corporate job look into a job in orlando...i should have spaced this out a little

IF YOU PLAN ON MAKEING DECENTLY BIG MONEY (200K +) THAN MIAMI WOULD BE COOL IF NOT ID STICK WITH ORLANDO MIAMI IS VERY EXPENSIVE AN UNLESS YOU LIKE LIVING IN A CLOSET YOU CANT BUY **** THERE FOR A REASONABLE PRICE
ON THE OTHER HAND IF YOU COME TO DAYTONA THERES NO JOBS....
ORLANDO SEEMS TO HAVE A STRONG ECONOMY AND THERE IS PLENTY OF HOUSING THAT IS RELETIVELY CHEAP COMPARED TO UP NORTH....
I KNOW MY HOUSE IS ABOUT 2100 LIVING (2500 ISH TOTAL) SQ FEET IN A GOLFCOURSE COMMUNITY AND ITS IN THE $350, 000 RANGE I DID BUY IN 3 YRS AGO FOR $178,000 AND PRICES ARE ASKING $400,000 RIGHT NOW BUT IF YOU MOVE OUT TOWARDS DELTONA YOU COULD PROBALLY KNOWCK 100K OFF THE PRICE OF A HOUSE. FURTHERMORE, DOWN SOUTH (MIAMI) I DONT THINK YOU COULD BUY MUCH FOR 400K DEFINATELY NOT NEAR THE ACTION YOU MIGHT HAVE BETTER LUCK IN WEST PALM BUT THEN AGAIN MOVING THERE IS STILL AN HR + FROM SOUTH BEACH
BASICALLY I SAY THE CFL AREA AITN A BAD IDEA

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I will check into jobs in those cities you mentioned. If anyone else has any ideas I would appreciate those as well. Thanks.

for a tech job I would have to say orlando or tampa are your best bets. Miami is really expensive and you really need to know some spanish. Lake county, parts of orange, osceola, polk county are good for housing. Just expect some sticker shock when you look at homes.

I like Tampa the best. On the water, not as hectic as the other big cities, and they have plenty of things to do. I moved out of Miami recently, great city but ridiculously $$$. Orlando is nice, if you don't mind the idiotic tourists everywhere (and yea, they're there year-round). Not familiar with north Florida, but Gainesville and Tallahassee are supposedly very nice.

Tampa hands down, #1 in customer service industry, that means they nedd IT peeps!! Prices are getting high on property so get in now!!! Water is within 30 minute of everwhere(this is why I do not like Orlando plus the dumb tourist).
