Default Anyone know anything about the T-netic's gtk turbo's

I have a car that we are putting a pair of twins in the opening of a mustang, customer wants a really nice looking turbo with anti-surge. We really like the looks of the gtk turbo's by Turbonetics but not sure on how they stack up otherwise. Anyone have any experience with them? We are shooting for about 1600 crank hp, and want something that will spool as fast as possible. Was also considering the billet wheel 67mm that PTE is supposed to be comming out, but it does not look nearly as cool.

Your going to pick a turbo because the Compressor cover looks better? Once the intake pipe goes on you won't even see those stupid looking surge ports. PTE's billet 62's kick ***, the new 67's they have coming out will be even better. PTE also has a different cover available at a slight bit more cost.

Its not like I am skimping on a turbo, we will buy the baddest peice someone makes. There is not going to be any filter or anything on the turbo's, open inlet. Trying to decide on the billet 67's or the gtk's at this point.

gtk 550 and gtk 1000 pictured here
gtk 550 twins in race car
gtk 1000 on sbc on engine stand

if you got the new hp comp wheels , with f1 trim turbine wheels, in Ball bearing , you would have the same quality running gear , minus the slotted comp housing..
the slots actually hurt the performance alittle up on the high end of out put...

surge slots do make a different spool up noise too, and during t/b closing.....

sorry about the messy workshop

Chris.
It is a local EVO...I believe the turbo was a 6262 by PTE.

According to Dave Austin at Turbonetics, a T series ceramic bearing turbo is the same as a GTK except it does not have the drilled comp housing or the coatings. So a T76 is the same as a GTK1000.

Only "bad" thing about GTK's is that you can not specify turbine AR's. Doesn't make sense...but I asked about a GTK1000 with a 0.81 AR and was told it came in a 0.96 only and they won't build one with a 0.81....go figure...

Any guesses on how much the slotted/drilled comp housing helps spool up? Hurts top end power?

I've been told that before but could never get a numeric answer.

firstly,
when i ordered the gtk 1000, i wanted .81 a/r turbine, AND water housing...\

thats how they came, no worries...
so the combo was
gtk1000 / 850
no extra charge

the spool up does help,
but i have no way of showing data, except for time of spool up is improved..
the comp wheel recovery from t/b closing, would also be quicker, due to surge slots allowing back feed of air..

i ended up selling those turbo's, and going another route

We can get the GTK's with whatever housings you want. Also the Tnetic GTM units are a slick piece as well. Much larger cover and still have the same turbine, comp wheel....ETC.

That's the only thing that bothers me about Turbonetics....misinformation....

Good to know that you CAN get a GTK 1000 with 0.81 AR.....

We can get them with twin scroll housings as well for the smaller cube motors and the GTM's are not even available directly. Tnetics has a TON of turbo options, but they don't advertise them all. They really are a very nice company

just check to see if that cover has a larger a/r tooo

you may be better to get dr turbo to build something up ???
i didnot order them direct, i had turbonetics autherized supplier do the leg work for me.
i just like all my turbo's water cooler if possible
