Default 408 with ls1 heads would lq9 317 head help?

I currently have a 408 with an sts turbo with ls1 head ported pretty good. My ? is would it be worth it/help to go to 317 lq9 heads? Are the 6.0 heads better for boost? Do these flow better? I cant afford afrs. Any info would help thanks.

depends on the flow numbers of the ported ls1 heads. 317 have a 72cc chamber. And flow like a 243 head. good for lowering the compression which means easier to tune, and more boost can be applied.

The heads are supposedly ported to the max & have over $1k into total machine work and vavles. I heard the deck height wasnt high enough and the heads would lift at over 12psi? This is what I was told by a tuner. Whats the most 5.7 241s can flow on a 408 boost wise for a rearmount?

I would stick with what you have until you can sell your current heads and afford a thicker deck aftermarket head, like the AFRs.

I would wait for some afr or other thicker deck heads as well. Or look for a used set see them once in awhile.
stock 317 would be ok for cheap and would as said lower compression a bit.

Patriot heads are great. I had some on an old setup and they are good stuff. The 317 will net you a larger combustion chamber. You could run a higher boost with those heads, I would say 18 would be safe. I have a friend tha tis running 15 on 91 octane on stock 317's. 760rwhp on a 370.
