glad to see you're making a comeback...

just make sure you account for all bolts and nuts this time before firing it up

Well it has been one thing after the other with getting held up with the motor. Lets rewind back about 6 weeks. Drop new block, crank, 1 new piston 7 old pistons, and my callies H beam rods off at the machine shop. one week goes by and I get a phone call saying I have 3 pistons with colasped skirts ok so I order 3 more pistons takes a week to get. Drop 3 new pistons at the machine shop and it takes them 1 week to get back to working on it. Then I get a phone call saying the new pistons are different than my old ones. Skirts are longer and they are 8 grams heavier. They also said that the difference in the skirts isn't the 8 grams so they changed more in the piston. So takes a few days back and forth with Diamond and the agree to let me send the 4 individual pistons back and get a full set as it is MUCH cheaper. Plus had I know that the pistons changed I would have ordered a whole set up front instead of purchasing individual ones. Also pisses me off that they would change the piston and not change the part number. So fast forward to this week. I got my full set of pistons from Diamond but now it is my turn to hold things up with the motor as I made the decision to Upgrade my rods as I discoverd this week that my Callies H beam rods are only rated for 750 hp and I hoping to be in the 900-1000 crank hp range.

So what started out as a new block and refresh the motor. As basicly turned into a complete new motor. Here is the run down.

LS1 block
Stock cranks
Callies HD I beam rods
Diamond -8.6cc dish piston
Virginia Speed VTC-2 cam
AFR 205 66cc heads
Ported Vic JR and Aarrons Elbow (matched to heads)

Gonna be around 9.6:1 CR and hoping to push 12-18 psi at it once I get all the little stuff worked out. I am planning on running pump and Meth for the 12-15psi range but gonna switch over to race fuel for the 18 psi stuff. If we had more than 1 local gas station(and its not really close to me) that had e85 I would probably run that all the time

I am not gonna blame you but seeing how close your motor was to its guts out. It is money well spent to help fight off the need to build another motor.

Well time for a good update. Got all my parts back from the machine shop last Thursday.

Diamond -8.6cc dish piston

Callies Compstar I beam rods

Stock block with APR studs

Stock crank

Everything was machined, balanced, and bearing clearances checked at the machine shop to all I had to do was put it all together

Using a rod bolt strecth gauge.

Head studs in

LS9 head gaskets

AFR 205 heads installed

Got the motor all together Monday at work. So monday night and Tuesday night I got the motor and trans all bolted together at home and ready to go in the car.

Motor and trans will be in the car Thursday night and I plan on hearing it run Saturday. Still have LOTS of little things to button up before it is driveable but it is getting close

Does the downpipe clear your steering linkage OK? Just wondering, because I am also routing my smaller (3") downpipe out the driver's side with a tubular K and by just eyeballing it, a larger downpipe looks to be a tight squeeze.

have not run the car with them yet. They are new to me. Just picked them up at the last issues damaged one of my 243 heads that I was running before.

Stock casting heads did really well for me before with boost. I know everyone likes the 225 AFRs for boost but I got a great deal on these other wise I would still be running a stock casting heads.

I think the car will do really well with these heads. Should be a monster.

Well last time I used a calculator with my old set up and a 64 cc head I was around 9.9:1 I also no I was around 9.5 with my stock 241 heads which are 67cc.

I just ran the numbers again.
3.905 bore
3.622 stroke
.051 compressed gasket
piston is 0.01 out of the hole
66 cc heads
-8.6 cc dish

gets me 9.6:1

figured out one of my issues with the car and running. Found a ground I missed when putting things back together. Also spent some time working on the idle VE so that it will stay running. Here is a start up vid.

I plan on getting the caf on the ground and loaded up on the trailer tomorrow night so I can take it into work and align and inspect it(expired in April). Hoping to be street ready saturday so I can start working on the tune.
