Default NEED HELP with turbo choice, having a try at 1k whp

I've been in the n/a game for a while now, and im looking to go turbo! I've read and read thru tons and tons of build threads.

Trying to put together a combo for 1k wheel! I know, I know, dyno numbers dont mean anything, but ive already been thru the entire 1/4 and im looking to build a good street setup. this is what i have planned thus far:

gimme a good choice for a big single, and a choice for a twin setup, really like the twin mpt-70s

370ci lq4/9
9:1
p&p 317 heads
1/2" head studs
diamond forged pistons
compstar forged h-beams
stock crank
arp bolts thru-out
23x/23x cam
vic jr.
flipped truck manifolds
3" hotside
a2w intercooler
TH400 frmvb 3200-3600 stall
9"
3.23 gear
28" tire

car will be a roll race car, mostly 60-160 pulls(any advice on a converter?)

How many psi would it take to get to 1k wheel??? i would like to do everything on 93 pump with a hobbs switch for q116.

How have guys been doing on the masterpower gt45s'???

thanks in advance

I would think 14 or 15psi would get you your goals. Should make for a pretty mean car! I went with callies compstar rods for my 370. Turbo should love that tire/gearing as well.

just 14 or 17 psi would be awesome!!!!

i was expecting 18-20, but hopefully i can achieve more with less.

compstar rods was a choice of mine also. they seem to hold up well.

I have a MP GT45 on a 6.0. Forged internals, stock 317's, LS6 cam. LS4 manifolds and homebuilt kit with intercooler on E85. Made 603/573 at 14psi on a dynojet. I am on a 2 bar tune so I cant go any higher. It ran 10.70 in a 3400lb? 71 Nova. 26" tall tire and 3.42 gears. The Gt45 is only a 68.9 mm compressor, if you really have to have 700rwhp, I would upgrade the turbo. It would be nice to see what one will do maxed out on higher boost though, if it will efficiently go any higher.

well hopefully you are right about the higher boost levels (16-18psi), the turbo is supposed to be good for 950 wheel according to mudular turbo, and looking at the charts, its flowing like 98 lb/min or somethin in that range. which makes sense with the 950 figure.

9:1 370ci + TH400 and 14psi? I don't think so. I bet it needs a good 18-19psi to make 700rwhp through that setup. When I made 773RWHP mine was making 17.5psi, 9.62:1 396, 4L60E, and a 12 bolt, he'll have quite a bit more drivetrain loss and need a little more boost on a 370 to do something similar.

my 408 did 640 through a TH400 and a 9"...and that was on an eddy-current dyno at 7.5psi...

well here is the million dollar question, with the correct plugs, gap, timing, 93 pump with meth, how much boost would be required to get to tat 700 wheel?

im seeing alot of 370"/th400/9" setups, but getting mixed reviews.

I'm thinking 14-15psi.

single turbo, PT88 or GT4518R with big exhaust housings.

twin turbo, the MPT70s will do it but I would do some TC67 with BB.

370ci with 317 heads and a stalled auto is going to take well over 20 psi for 1k wheel. You're also going to need oringed heads or a lot of luck and tuning skill. What car is this going in? You could do twin BWs for like $1200 if you have the room. The giant exhaust housings will help a lot. Twin 70s could get you there as well but I believe the MP units are P trim so the exhaust is kinda small.
