Default Oil pan fitting for return line

Is it safe to say most of you had to take out your oil pan for this? I need to have a fitting welded for the return line and I don't want to hassle with the K-member, but I will if I have too. Do I have any other options?

I did mine while i had the motor out. I'd say pull the pan to be on the safe side.

No way you'll want to tap the pan and risk leaving the shavings in there.

Im going to agree, people will tell you that you "can" do it while its still on there, But screw that. Way to easy to drop some shavings and suck them up.

id pull it, im tapping mine today

Would it be possible to use the low oil level sensor hole or is that too low in the pan? Just a thought.

I usually put bolts in the front and rear of the heads, but I'm not gonna lie... I've picked up the engine and trans using straps through the exhaust manifolds, too.

I might have to try the straps. Thanks for the response.
