That's funny...I have eyed this combo for a couple of years, both as a small cube blow-thru boosted engine and as high winding N2o motor...
I'm mighty tempted to build this...I have always liked the path less traveled...

So funny you mention the grenade, I know Marty as he is local to me. That guy is nuts man, he turbo'd a 500 inch caddy, his daily driver is a v6 camaro he slapped an ebay turbo on with nitrous on. Runs low 12s with an s10 converter in it haha. He did a huge wheel stand this year in his low 9 second twin to4e turbo 3rd gen. Ended up bending the frame so he hooked it up to a post and winched it back into shape hah. That guy is legend around here!! He's been in a few hot rods and car craft mags also. Sorry to get off topic.
I've built more than a few junkyard motors over the years...And have always been amazed at how much abuse a stock engine can take...
I once threw one of the small Weiand 144 superchargers along with .493-.512" Z28 1st design off road cam on a 76 truck engine with 80,000mi.
Had it in a 82 malibu with a th350, cheap 2800 stall conv. lincoln locked rear end (poor mans spool)
Never took it to the strip just played on the street with it...
It wouldn't die....So we threw a 175 shot on it...It sounded like a mighty pissed off bee when it got wound up...
My seat of the pants meter would put it as a high 10 ride...
Can't tell you how many bottles we abused it with
Never did blow the damn thing up. Ended up busting a sprag race in the th350. Pulled the blower and cam out, put in a RV cam and threw it in a buddys 4x4 that he beat on for a couple of years until he tried a really deep water crossing and hydrolocked it...
Another time was sitting around the shop being bored and spotted a old cast crank 454 out of a old Suburban sitting on a stand in the corner and got a wild hair to throw my fogger system on it.
Long story short we threw a old comp 292 hyd. cam in it and my fogger intake with a 850 and stuffed the hole works into a buddys tubbed 68 camaro with a glide.
Cant tell you how many times we hit that poor engine with 350-400 hp hits...You could almost hear it moaning when you hit the trigger...
It never gave up the ghost either...Yanked it out when my buddy finished his engine...Got thrown back in the corner after it's 15 min. of fame...Ended up giving it to a guy that was looking for something to throw into his boat.
The cool thing about these type of deals is just how much damn fun it is...
No worrys about your big dollar crank exiting stage left...Just lots of grins and giggles everytime you beat on it...
Dang it...Got me looking at a poor 5.3 sitting in the shop...Wonder how much giggle juice I can stuff in it...

I have about 7k in my setup so far, 402 CI stroke kit from tsp, Turbo Cam, l92 heads, t6 88 mm Turbonetics Turbo(used) and all the hotpipes/flanges to do stainless headers. Also its a blow thru Carb setup. I think all I need is a good set of heads that wouldn't lift and 1000hp is attainable.

There is no such thing as cheap. There is, however, being smart about things. Lay out a plan with somebody that's done it before and stick to it. Buy stuff once, not two or three times. The single hardest thing to do is spend the money on the supporting stuff first. Rearend, tranny, suspsension. That stuff really doesn't make you faster, so it's hard to swallow at first. Better to do it and not break stuff once the power is on tap though. I've learned the hard way.

wow people are dicks....if they read past your post damn.
ovioulsy you have some money....so that wont be a problem. but your like most people....on a build your not worried about buying ARP bolts for your ls6intake.lol
go 370 or 408.
408 would sound pretty healthy, turbo to match. good trans and rear if you dont have one. and FUEL! lol

Starting with a clean slate...Looking for the best bang for the buck..
Block, ci. turbo, heads, cam etc...
Figuring a 6.0 block...but what ci. 370, 408 etc. Which turbo...Again figuring the best cost vs price...How about heads...? What kind of boost...?
What would you build for the lowest cost engine for getting that hp level that would last...?

wow 90% of these posts are retards dancing around the questions. He never asked about a trans, rear end....etc.
I'd think any built shortblock would work, stock crank. I think the guy from sweden said no need for after market heads under 1500hp... and proved that. No need for a fancy turbo setup when it can and has been done with manifolds. A decent turbo and some exhaust work and your golden.
If i didnt have any thing... I'd pick up an AES shortblock. factory heads....317s. Im sure some place sells them all redone, ported, good valves. Spec's out turbo cam. Same w/ turbo.
It can all be done for A LOT less than most people think. I do it all the time.
